When Allen Lau and Ivan Yuen first co-founded Wattpad in 2006, their vision was to make reading accessible on mobile devices.

In Wattpad's early days, users could read imported public domain stories like "Pride and Prejudice" or "A Christmas Carol". In those the first 2-3 years, Wattpad's core function was to enable 'reading on the go'. Fast forward 10+ years and Wattpad has become the largest global reading and writing platform with a social community of over 70 million monthly audience.

What first started as a place to find and read stories has become home to millions of diverse voices who have shared over 565 million original story uploads.

That's why our brand is changing. We've simply outgrown our old logo and tagline, "Stories you'll love." And like all companies (and people), we've grown, evolved, and changed over the past 13 years.

We started by rolling out our new visual identity for our corporate presence, for Wattpad Studios, and for Wattpad Brand Partnerships. You may have even seen glimpses of our new logo and visual identity, and perhaps guessed at this change coming for the Wattpad platform.

What's changing?

From 'Stories you'll love' to 'Where stories live.'

As the largest global reading and writing platform with an audience of over 70M users and over 500M story uploads, we've always prided ourselves on being a place where you'll be able to find a story you will love. But "Stories you'll love" wasn't representative of what set Wattpad apart: our community.

Our community connects through stories. Stories on Wattpad come alive. They invite readers into a journey that takes a hold of you and sparks your imagination. Our new tagline, "Where stories live" is inclusive and meant to represent the breadth and depth of voices, stories, and diversity in our community.

You'll notice right away that our Wattpad logo has changed. Our old logo was static and was truthfully created from a free font type, where our founder cleverly turned an "M" upside down to make a "W". While that resourcefulness and quick-thinking exemplifies our early startup bootstrapping days, it no longer represents who Wattpad is today. Our new logo conveys forward motion and energy, with an organic hand-penned form, giving it a personal touch and a nod to the importance of our Wattpad community. The accompanying wordmark has conjoined "tt"'s to look like they're holding hands and also represent our connected community.

The background of our user interface is now white, to better showcase all of your stories and is now accentuated by a vibrant and more modern orange

These changes will roll out globally across our iOS and Android apps starting on February 6, 2019 and then across web in March 2019.

What isn't changing?

Wattpad will still function the same way without disruption to how you upload, read, or connect over stories. We will also remain committed to being a place for hundreds of millions of free stories where writers can share their unique voice and readers can connect with stories that reflect their diverse interests.

Our approach to the new brand has been intentional, and a labor of love -- and we feel the outcome is a robust and thoughtful brand that hones in on the values of Wattpad and what lies at the heart of our community: you. We hope you are just as excited as we are to reveal the new brand to the rest of our Wattpad community as we continue to embark on this journey together!
