1. Jack X Reader

The sea had been ornery over the past few days. She threw everything at the Black Pearl that she could in hopes of capsizing the ship. Tall waves, strong winds, sheets upon sheets of rain...it had been rough, but Jack had managed to weather it all.

But because of that, you had hardly seen him. He was so busy steering his Pearl that he had no time to step away from the wheel to spend with you. You knew the ship was his pride and joy and you knew he trusted no one but himself to steer her through rough waters, but you were beginning to miss him. You almost felt envious of the ship. As silly as it was, at least she had spent the last few days with Jack.

You woke today with a pleasant surprise. The rocking of the ship felt much gentler than it had the past several days. You dared to hope that the weather had improved and that maybe, finally, Jack would be able hand off his duties for the day.

You wandered out of the captain's cabin, rubbing your eyes to adjust them to the early morning light. The sky looked blue and the waves, subdued. It seemed the sea had finally given up its attempts to drag you to Davy Jones' locker.

Gibbs gave you a salute as he saw you and you gave a polite nod in return. Being the captain's companion garnered great respect, but you insisted you were no different than any of the crew. You had become quite good friends with a majority of Jack's crew because of this.

You looked to the wheel of the ship to find Jack at his post. If you were being honest, he looked exhausted. The storms over the last few days had taken a toll on everyone. You made your way up to him, hoping you could coax him away from his work for some well deserved rest.

Jack smiled as he saw you approach. "Morning, luv. Sleep well?"

"The sea was rough, but I managed," you replied, pecking him on the cheek. "What about you? You look like you're ready to fall over."

Jack let out a tired chuckle. "Ah, a captain's work is never through," he said. "I say, though, there's nobody's hands I trust more than me own."

You wrapped your arms around Jack's waist from behind, resting your chin on his shoulder. "C'mon, hun, step down for today. Let Gibbs steer the seas while you come rest with me."

Jack let out a hum, placing a calloused hand over yours that were clasped around his waist. "You make a tempting offer there, luv..." he trailed off.

"Yeah?" You smiled. "Is it tempting enough to accept?"

"If it were any other day, I'd say yes," he said. "Wish I could, dear, but the seas still hold a hint of malice. Just wanna make certain she don't act on it."

You resisted the urge to sigh. You tried not to let your disappointment show as you pulled back from Jack, saying how you understood, that you'd find a way to amuse yourself until Jack was free. You stepped back down to the main deck, feeling a little disheartened. You wandered over to the bow, looking out over the deep blue waters. You heard someone approach you and saw that it was Gibbs.

  "Don't be discouraged, lass. You know how the captain is about his ship," he said.

  You nodded. "I know. It's just... It's silly, but I miss him..."

  "It's not silly at all," Gibbs replied. "And I think Jack knows how you feel. He'll come 'round, don't you worry."

  You tried to smile. "Thanks, Gibbs."

  Gibbs smiled back. "Anytime."

  You had spent most of the day out on deck, doing what you could to help the crew. Gibbs had taught you a number of sailor knots that often came in handy when helping out. However, as the sky grew pink and the sun started to dip below the horizon, you wandered back into the captain's cabin.

  You sat at the table, your eyes roaming absently over the nautical maps Jack had laid out. Your fingers traced over the various markings he had made, the hastily scrawled notes along the border of the map. You hoped it would help quell the loneliness aching in your chest, but it didn't. You let out a sigh.

  Eventually, you decided to turn in for the night. You couldn't stop your wandering thoughts and feared you might do something rash, so you decided to go to bed before you did something you regretted.

  You didn't really sleep, but instead dozed on and off. You were fitful and couldn't seem to find a comfortable position to lay in. You were so used to snuggling up to Jack at night, it felt...weird being alone.

  At some point during the night, you heard the cabin door open. You turned over in bed and saw that it was Jack.

  "Sorry, luv, I didn't mean to wake you," he said as he approached the bed, laying down beside you.

  You immediately reached for him and Jack was more than willing to wrap you in his warm embrace. "You didn't wake me; I wasn't really sleeping."

  "Really?" Jack said, sounding surprised. "I assumed you would be. Sun's been down for a while now."

  "I... I missed you," you admitted quietly.

  Jack let out a hum, pressing a delicate kiss to your forehead. "Have you, now? Well, we can't have that."

  Just hearing Jack's playful tone was enough to make a smile begin to form. "No?"

  "Tell you what. I'll ask Gibbs to look after the Pearl for a few days," Jack said. "That should give us some much needed time together, huh? Whaddya say, luv?"

  You sighed contentedly, snuggling into him as much as you could. "Sounds perfect, darling. I'd love that."

  "I hoped you would. I know the past few days have been rough on you, my sweet, but I'll make it up to you. I promise," Jack said.

  "Thank you, Jack," you said, feeling yourself finally starting to drift off. "Thank you..."
