I threw on a sweatshirt and a pair of converse before racing out to my car. I was about to be late to school the third day in a row. I sped off and ran a red light, thankfully not being caught, and made it to first block two minutes before the late bell rang. I sat behind Ethan and then set my book bag down with a 'thud.' I shoved my face into my hands and then let out a sigh.
"You okay?" Ethan asked me as the teacher left the room.
"Yeah, I just had a late night at the hospital with dad," I answered, lifting my head up and grabbing my notebook from my bag. Today was going to be a very long day. I almost fell asleep during first block, got in trouble for being late in second block, forgot to do my homework for third block, and had to give a presentation in fourth block. After school mom told me to go home and get some rest since I had only gotten two hours of sleep. I made it home and then pretty much launched onto my bed to take a nap.
I woke up to my phone ringing. I let out a sigh and then answered it. It was Beck, she was wondering if she and Ethan could come over. I said they could and then pulled out some homework. They arrived quickly and Copper started barking at the door when they arrived. I walked downstairs and they followed me to the kitchen I made us all some tea.
"Today felt like it was never going to end," I yawned as we walked over to the couch.
"I felt that," Ethan agreed, sitting next to me.
"Me too," Beck responded, sitting next to Ethan, "are you trying out for any spring sports?"
"Um, I don't know. With dad's Leukemia I don't think i'm going to be able to focus on anything at the moment," I said, placing my drink on the coffee table to cool off.
"What sports do you play?" Ethan asked.
"I play lacrosse," I answered. We talked a little bit more about sports and then sat in silence for a bit. I turned on Hallmark channel and Ethan let out a laugh, "What?" I asked.
"These movies are so cheesy," he chuckled.
"That's what makes them so good," Beck argued.
"They are all the same!" He laughed.
"They are fabulous!" I argued, Beck and I hitting him with pillows.
"Okay! Okay! Fine! There amazing movies!" He answered.
"Thank you," Beck smiled, kissing his cheek. I looked away and then got up to go to the kitchen. i leaned against the counter and let out a sigh. I was obviously picking up feelings for Ethan but I had to get rid of them, he's taken by my best friend. As I rinsed my cup and put it in the dishwasher, Beck entered the room, "Hey."
"Hi," I responded, drying my hands on a towel.
"So, I have this friend I want you to meet," she smiled, "do you want to go to my place and meet him there?"
"Him?" I clarified, oh no.
"Yes. You down?" she asked.
"Um," I looked through the doorway at Ethan. Maybe meeting this guy could help me stop liking him. I looked down at my attire in a sweatshirt and sweatpants, "Sure. Let me go get dressed into something nicer though."
"Yay!" she squealed, "I'll help you pick something out!"
"Okay," I laughed as we walked to my room. She picked me out a red long sleeve with slits where the shoulders are, a pair of jeans, and some tan flats. She grabbed my makeup bag and sat in front of me, she set out all the things she needed and it looked like she was gonna apply a very fancy look, "Beck, i'm meeting a guy. Not walking on the red carpet."
"I know that," she said, applying foundation to a makeup sponge, "but I think he'll be even more blown away with a fancy makeup look. Not that you aren't already gorgeous, just this adds even more." I let her do her thing and I looked pretty good by the end of it. I walked downstairs with Beck and Ethan looked me up and down, "Doesn't she look great?"
"Yeah," he smiled, "She does."
"Alright, let's go get this over with," I answered, breaking the awkward tension. We drove over to Beck's place and there was a car already parked in her driveway. I hopped out of my car and she was already talking to the guy. He was pretty attractive, brownish blonde hair dressed in some nice jeans and a t-shirt.
"You must be the pretty lady that Beck tells me all about," he smiled, wow. He had a good smile... and an accent? Australian? "I'm Tom."
"Hi," I blushed, "I'm Ivy."
"Okay, let's go inside," Beck smiled, Tom and Ethan walked in front of us and Beck smirked at me, "Isn't he cute?"
"Sure," I smiled, "You didn't tell me he was Australian."
"I know, I thought that would be a nice surprise," she laughed. I shook my head and laughed, she was nuts. We hung out for a bit and Tom seemed really nice, he had a really fun personality. I checked the time and it was nine o' clock. I felt like I shoul be at the hospital with dad but I felt like staying.
"Hey, Beck, could I stay the night?" I asked, Tom sitting next to me.
"Yeah, sure!" she answered, handing me a water bottle.
"Awesome," I smiled. I let my mom know I was staying at Beck's and we decided to watch a movie. I laid my head on Tom's shoulder by accident halfway through the movie but then felt awkward about moving. He wrapped his arm around me in response and I felt uncomfortable. I knew this kid for like three hours. I just tried to focus on the movie and ignore the awkward gut feeling I had. The boys left around twelve and Beck and I headed up to her room.
"So you and Tom seemed to be getting close," Beck smirked.
"It doesn't mean anything," I responded, "I accidentally set my head on his shoulder but I felt weird moving so I just... yeah."
"Okay. Well, when your dating in two weeks you'll thank me."
"Whatever," I laughed.
