I woke up to my alarm clock blaring in my ears. it was 5:30 am. I groaned and slammed my hand on the button to turn it off. I snuggled into my covers and tried to fall back asleep. I gave up and grabbed my phone and my heart sunk when I saw the notification on my phone that I didn't have the heart to remove. Not only was it the first day of school, it was Elsie and I's friend-a-versery. I sighed and got out of bed. I changed into a pair of shorts and a tank top, throwing my hair up into a ponytail and tying my running shoes. I blasted five seconds of summer through my headphones, and ran out the door. The chilly, foggy environment gave me goosebumps. My lungs started to burn, but I ran on. Running was the only thing that I could do to stay fit and clear my mind.
I ran my usual route and then made it back home. I stretched when I got inside and then walked up to my room to get ready for the day. I grabbed a pair of mom jeans, a yellow top that read "Hawaii" across the front, and a belt. I hopped in the shower and washed my strawberry blonde hair. When I got out of the shower I threw my hair up in a towel and then dressed in the outfit I chose. I blow-dried my hair and then styled it into two dutch braids. I exited the bathroom, slipped on my Birkenstocks, grabbed my phone, Elsie's glasses, and my backpack, and then ran down the steps to breakfast.
"Morning, Ivy," my mom smiled as I walked into the kitchen.
"Morning," I responded, a small smile on my face.
"Ready to start junior year?" asked mom.
"I kinda have to be ready," I answered slicing an orange in half.
"You'll be fine," mom re-assured me, giving me a kiss on the head, "I got to get to work, love you."
"Love you too," I responded as she left.
I ate the orange and then walked out the door. I found two daisy's and tied them into both of my braids. I got into my car and put on Elsie's glasses, I had changed the lenses to fake ones and wore them all the time. I pulled out of the driveway and made my way to school. Junior year already and I was doing it alone without Elsie. I pulled into the parking lot and parked into a space. I took a deep breath. Here we go. I grabbed my bag and walked into the prison i'd be stuck in for the next multiple months. I walked into the school and looked for my cousin Hannah. I saw her pink hair and walked towards her.
"Hey, Ivy!" she exclaimed hugging me.
"Hey, Han," I smiled.
"You look so cute today," she mentioned.
"Thanks," I answered. We chatted until the bell rang and then headed off to our first block classes. I walked into pre-calculus and took a seat in the back. A group of girls that I assumed to be preppy cheerleaders walked into the classroom and sat in front of me. Wonderful. An attractive brunette entered the room and the girls whispered to each other before moving to sit near him. I realized I was staring at him and looked away quickly. Some other people entered the room and then the bell rang. The teacher introduced himself and talked us through the long syllabus he had placed on each desk. I looked over and saw the brunette staring. He let out a smirk and I rolled my eyes and looked away.
The class eventually ended and I walked to Chemistry. I took a seat behind Hannah and thanked God we had a class together.
"Why so sad, Doll?" asked Hannah, applying a layer of lip gloss .
"Just miss Elsie," I explained, resting my chin on my hand.
"Aw, sorry doll," Hannah frowned.
"Yeah," I responded, twiddling my pencil.
Chemistry was just like pre-calc. Hannah and I walked to lunch. I talked to her for a bit and then got up to go to the bathroom. I was walking through the hallway and saw a bunch of football players, including the brunette from earlier. They started cat-calling me.
