SCARLETT HILL looked at herself one more time through her rear-view mirror, not recognizing the girl that stared back at her.

Sure, her distinctive light eyes and dark hair remained the same but the girl inside of her was not the same girl she was a few months ago. Sighing, Scarlett grabbed her grey crossbody and slung it over her shoulder before she stepped out of her black Volkswagen.

Four other cars, which all belonged to her best friends, were parked next to her's in the makeshift parking area the Covington family had created for their secluded cabin. It was a mere thirty-minute drive from Stonewalls, it didn't cost much to get there but directions were tricky due to the forested area around them.

Scarlett walked up the stone path that led to the cabin and knocked once before the door quickly opened to reveal Sadie wearing a plastic smile on her face but her eyes gave her hatred away.

"Scar! Come in," Sadie said widening the door as she ushered her in.

Scarlett followed her inside the lavish cabin and left her coat in the foyer before following Sadie into the living room where her six other friends were already seated. Hunter gave her a quick kiss hello as she handed Sadie a bottle of liquor she had swiped from her dad's liquor cabinet.

"Now we can get this shit started!" Julien said connecting his phone to the speaker, the music on full blast.

Scarlett danced for a little with Ashley before playing beer pong with Georgia against Hunter and Julien. Once their game had ended, Scarlett switched out with Sadie after Rebekah had texted her to meet her outside.

"I'll be right back," Scarlett said smiling at her friends before sliding the back door to join Rebekah in the dimly lit terrace. Scarlett looked back at the cabin, seeing her friends having fun and without any suspicions.

Rebekah was staring at the woods, a red Solo cup tightly held in her hand.

"Do you have it?" Scarlett questioned her childhood friend, opening her hand in front of her.

"Scar, you don't want to end up like me," Rebekah told her as she fished around her jeans.

"Do you have it or not, Bekah!" Scarlett insisted.

Rebekah hopelessly took a small plastic bag filled with white powder out of her pocket and tossed it right into Scarlett's palm.

"Thanks, Becks," Scarlett said smiling at her as she put the small plastic in her pocket.

"Scar, what we did wasn't right. We should find a way to raise the money back," Rebekah said pleadingly.

"Since when did you become all holier than thou? Everyone knows you love a good party, plus the money we had is gone, there's no proof and no point in raising it back." Scarlett said walking back towards the house.

"I'm heading out to get some snacks from the gas station, I'll be right back," Scarlett told her friends as she hurriedly grabbed her wallet and keys and ran down the path to her car.

Scarlett dialed Luke Tanner's number and waited for him to pick up as she got in the driver's seat.

"Hey, Scar. Where are we meeting?" Luke asked her as Scarlett took the plastic bag outside of her pocket.

"You know the small parking lot that's always empty on Beavercreek Road. The one that people get high in?" Scarlett asked him referring to the road Sadie's cabin was on and was surrounded by the woods as she pulled out of the parking area.

"Yeah, I used to smoke there myself back during my high school days. I'll meet you there in ten." Luke told her before hanging up.

Scarlett drove down Beavercreek Road for a good five minutes before pulling over in the empty parking lot she had agreed to meet Luke at.

Predicting that Luke was about five minutes away, she got out of her car to wait for him and impatiently took out the plastic bag. She set up a line for herself on the hood of her car, taking a dollar bill out of her wallet to use.

She held the bill to her nose and snorted all the powder in the straight line, wiping off the residue on her nose and car before Luke got there. She put the bag back in her pocket right as Luke pulled in the parking lot.

"Hey baby," Luke said to her, pulling her in for a passionate kiss as they stumbled down the hill next to the parking lot.

Lifting her shirt over her head, Luke's kisses trailed down as he pushed her against a tree.

"Babe, we need to talk," Scarlett told him, putting her shirt back on.

"You look serious, what happened?" Luke asked her, readjusting his shirt as well.

Scarlett looked down and then back at him, not able to find the words to tell him what she would regret, "I think we should end things."

Luke's brows furrowed, "Is it because of the whole teacher thing? Scar, I don't teach at your high school anymore but at the neighboring town's community college. I'm only seven years older than you, which isn't that much. Or is it because of Hunter? You know there's no spark there, I don't know why you're still with the guy."

"No, it's not because of the teacher thing or Hunter. I just can't be in this, whatever you call this, anymore. It's too complicated, life's too complicated. I can't handle this right now, I'm sorry." Scarlett told him, walking back up the hill as he followed behind her.

Luke gave her a kiss goodbye and left, leaving her alone. Scarlett started her car and started to drive toward the gas station to get the snacks she had promised. Once she had gotten a few bags of chips, she began to drive back to Sadie's cabin but when she pulled into the parking area, she couldn't keep it in any longer.

Tears began to roll down Scarlett's eyes before she started hysterically crying. She heaved as she cleaned the tears off her cheek and her neck with her sweater, looking in the mirror to make sure she didn't look destroyed.

Her life had become a mess. She had cheated on her boyfriend with her ex-teacher who she had a three-month-long affair with, even having sex with him when she had told her boyfriend she wanted to wait. The universe was against Scarlett so much she had found out she was pregnant only an hour before leaving to go to Sadie's.
