Chapter 3 | Promises?

"Okay so white and purple roses, with some pink accents?" Keileigh said, tapping her computer.

I nod and she lists some other things we need to sort out.

"Lizzie?"

Joel's home.

"In here" I call him.

He walks in and sits on the sofa next to me, his arm over my shoulder.

"Hi Joel" Keighleigh says, without looking up.

"Hey, What you guys doin?"

"Wedding stuff" I reply.

"GIRLS DAY" Maddie screams, walking through the door.

Keighleigh left a while ago, thank goodness at that.

I whoop to humour her and finish of the salad I'm eating.

"Where are we going?"

"TO THE MALL!" She yells, flapping her arms around.

"Righty then! Give me a minute to grab what I need and we'll go"

She nods and sits down on the sofa, spreading out her limbs.

Meri runs up and licks her enthusiastically.

I laugh and grab my coat, stuffing what I need into my purse, and putting on my shoes.

"I'm ready! But I'm driving"

"What why?!" Maddie protests.

"Because you drive like hooligan" I say, walking out the house and getting into the car.

"Shotgun!" Maddie calls

"It's just us you idiot" I laugh.

"Oh yeah" Maddie laughs and gets in.

I pull up at the mall and we get out.

She sashays through the revolving doors and stops abruptly making me bump into her.

"What the hell?" I step around her.

She swings her arms out, almost hitting me in the face.

"We've arrived!" She yells.

"Okay, you need some food because you're crazy"

"Pizza Hut!" She yells.

I nod and let her drag me to the food court.

We sit at a table and she orders a Hawaiian pizza, while I get a margarita.

I haven't had junk food in a while.

The food comes and we start talking about everything under the sun.

"An abomination!" She argues.

"No! I just said putting fruit on a pizza is a weird concept"

"You're a weird concept" she responds quickly.

"What?" I laugh incredulously.

"Yeah, I said it, what you gonna do about it"

We dissolve into peels of laughter, and we received some weird looks.

"So hows life" She continues

I shrug, not really knowing what to say.

"Are you ready for your wedding?"

I nod, knowing the answer immediately.

"Does he know"

I give her a stern look, but either she doesn't see it or is choosing to ignore it.

When Maddie stares at her, waiting for answer, I decide to annoy her some more.

"Does he know what"

She rolls her eyes, "does he know what happened back in-"

"No and he doesn't bloody need to know"

"Lizzie!" Maddie said, frustrated.

"It doesn't flatter" I huff.

"People from your past are now reappearing in your present, he needs to know"

"No he doesn't" I sigh, "Jessie knows"

"That's a start, but it's sort of something you should tell your fiancé"

I shake my head obstinately.

She gives up and takes a few bites of her pizza.

"Can I just say one thing"

I'm about to object.

"Then I'll leave it alone"

I reluctantly nod.

"It wasn't your fault, what happened"

She doesn't give me room to answer before getting up and going to the bathroom.

I sigh, I know I should tell Joel, but I can't, not now.

I mentally argue with myself in my head.

"No!" I cry out

"Oh yes" she giggles, grabbing my arm and dragging me off.

I sigh dejectedly and let her drag me into the salon.

She orders meni-pedis and we sit down.

I groan, "whyyy"

"Because, you need to loosen up"

I shrug and ignore her, picking out the colours I want, and letting the manicurist do her thing.

When we are done, we sit for a while, while I get my hair touched up.

"Cute" Maddie compliments, when my hair is done.

"Why thank you" I laugh.

Maddie skips along the centre of the mall.

Dancing like an idiot to the music playing.

I giggle as she swings her arms around violently.

"LALALALA" she screams out, her voice painfully out of tune.

I wince and she raises her eyebrows, singing louder.

Luckily there are only a few people in the mall, but that doesn't stop me from dropping my pace so I can further convince people I have no idea who it is.

She starts playing the air guitar and I'm laughing so hard my chest hurts.

She stops and sits down beside me, panting.

"You're an embarrassment" I laugh.

She just nods, unable to control her laughter.

Ive been dead, but I'm sad, my best friend for as long as I can remember is moving away.
