Fighting Darkness (Tokoyami X Reader)

"Today you'll all be changing into your hero costumes for our training." All Might stated.
We all cheered excitedly. I couldn't wait to see my visions become a reality.

After we all got changed, we met with All Might for our training. I stood proudly in my hero costume as I waited for everyone else. The girls' hero costumes were for the most part skin tight jumpsuits except mine; I guess mine looked more like the boys'. My costume had bright blue baggy pants with garters at the thighs, along with matching wrist and ankle weights. I had a black long sleeve shirt, gloves, and boots. This would allow me to move as I wanted, while also giving me comfort and support. For a bit of drama, I added a choker and chest garter that matched my weights. I also asked for temporary face tattoos that would only be visible when my costume is on.
When everyone gathered, we all looked around at everyone else's costumes.
"Thanks for copying my design, Kacchan~" I joked, seeing that he also had boots, thigh garters, and a black shirt.
"Huh?" He looked over at me with a displeased look. "If anything you're copying me. Fucking copycat."
"You take everything too seriously." I shook my head with a smile as I lightly slapped Bakugo's back. I tuned out Bakugo yelling in my ear as I continued laughing to myself.

"Today we're doing a battle trial." All Might announced. "Everyone will be in pairs of two, and each team will get to play either the villains or the heroes." All Might explained the details of the exercise and we got in our corresponding pairs.

"Just stay outta my way." Bakugo said.
"We're gonna lose if you rush into this recklessly." I replied as Bakugo started walking.
"Shut up!" He raised his voice. "I don't need your stupid advice."
I rolled my eyes. "Fine. Do it your way and then come blame it on me when we lose." We stepped inside the building and headed towards the designated spot.

I stayed behind and waited while Bakugo went off to relieve his grudge on Midoriya.
"Why is he so damn stubborn?" I sighed.
I sat with my face in my hands, patiently waiting for Uraraka to come through the door. Midoriya's strategy so far was going how I assumed he planned: distract Kacchan for as long as possible while Uraraka declared victory for them. I closed my eyes and heard only faint explosions from the floors below me. Continuing to listen, I heard the slightest noise about three feet away from me. I quickly opened my eyes and looked at the direction of the noise.
How long is she gonna wait it out for?
I decided to sneak up on her rather than wait. If I was correct, if she happened to bump into me before she touched the bomb and we would start fighting, she would want my attacks to land on the floor and on the walls because she would have the chance to use the debris against me.
I activated my quirk to make myself lighter and I approached Uraraka around the corner and greeted her with a punch.
Startled, Uraraka briefly lost balance but she managed to get some distance between us. I approached her once again and threw some punches.
Don't hit the walls, don't hit the walls.
"I'm sorry Uraraka, I can't let you win this one."

"Team (y/n) and Bakugo win!" All Might announced.
"Who was gonna lose again?" Bakugo smirked.
"If any other sane person was your partner, you would've lost." I glared at him for his cockiness. "That stunt that Midoriya pulled would've gave Uraraka the upper hand and they would've won."
"Bullshit you fucking tomboy."
"You would've been shitting your pants if they won, so listen to people when they tell you something once in a while." I shook my head and walked off before Bakugo could shout in my ear again.

"All Might." I called out.
"Yes, young (n/n)?"
"Is Midoriya with Recovery Girl? Can I go see him?"
"Of course you can young (n/n)!" He grinned at me. "I was just about to go there myself."

"Excuse me." I said as I opened the door to the nurses office.
"All Might! And... (y/n)?" Midoriya said.
"Are you okay?" I asked him. He nodded as I sat down besides him. "I don't know how you do it."
"Huh? Do what?" He looked at me confused.
"Deal with Bakugo." I sighed. "He's so hotheaded and so stubborn on doing things alone. Why is that?"
"He's been like that since we were kids. He's not a bad guy, he just doesn't know how to control his temper." He replied.
"I'm sure a lot of people don't like him for that. But you..." I thought for a moment, "I assume you've had his back since then regardless of how he treats you. You're a good person Midoriya." I smiled.
He looked a little flustered as he stuttered out, "Th-thank you."
"Well, I'm gonna go watch how everyone else does. I'll see you later." As I exited out of the room, I heard Recovery Girl start to scold All Might for Midoriya's injuries.

I went to the monitor room and watched the battles intently. Everyone's quirks were amazing to see in action. I was especially mesmerized by Tokoyami's quirk.
He's so cool. Breathtaking even. I can't believe a quirk could be so hypnotizing. I hope I can work with Tokoyami in the future.
"(N/n)! Good job out there." One of Shoji's limbs congratulated me, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Thank you so much!" I smiled and bowed.

Since there's an odd number of us, we had to recreate a final two additional teams in order for the last person to complete their trial.

"The hero team will be (y/n) and Tokoyami. The villain team will be Iida and Bakugo." All Might declared.
Tokoyami and I quickly came up with a plan before entering the building.
"Based on his actions last time, Bakugo will try to take us out head first. Maybe he was hasty before because he just wanted to fight Midoriya."
"Regardless, we need to figure out the location of the bomb as soon as we can. I believe that you should distract Bakugo while Dark Shadow and I look around."

"Kacchan~" I cooed as Tokoyami and I entered the building, attempting to provoke the hotheaded blond.
Tokoyami headed the opposite direction I did as I waited for Bakugo to reveal himself.
"I hope you don't get mad at me when I win." I cautiously looked around.
"Don't get ahead of yourself, shitty tomboy." Bakugo snickered, appearing out of thin air with his explosions ready to be fired.
I need to capture him. I can't let Tokoyami down.

After many failed attempts of trying to capture Bakugo, the ear pieces went off.
"Team (y/n) and Tokoyami win!" All Might's voice rang through the ear pieces.
Instinctually, a smile of relief spread across my lips.
"Still friends though, right?" I chuckled as I glanced towards an angry Bakugo.
"I'll kill you!" He charged up, only to have All Might stop him.

"(Y/n)." I heard a soft yet firm voice call out to me.
"Tokoyami!" I exclaimed. "Good job!"
"You too. Thank you for being my partner." He replied, catching me off guard with his gratitude.
"Of course." I smiled.

We met up with the rest of the class in the monitor room.
"Good job you two!" Hagakure cheered.
"You won twice (n/n)! That's so cool!" Mina congratulated.
"Thank you." I stuttered out with a nervous smile. "I couldn't have done it alone." I glanced at Tokoyami.
"You." I turned around to see Bakugo.
"Hey-"
"I'll fight you until I beat you." He grit his teeth and stomped away.
What a day. Although, I'm so glad that I got to be Tokoyami's partner.
