We met outside of the school. We were greeted by the U.A. teachers all standing proudly in their hero costumes. There was one particular teacher that I had never seen before.
I wonder what his quirk is?
Aizawa sensei explained what the exam was going to be like.
Ah, so it's a real life battle simulation.
"Aizawa sensei," I raised my hand, "since there's an odd number of us, will there be a group of three?"
"Thanks for bringing that up. You, (y/n), will have to test by yourself." Aizawa sensei looked at me.
I nodded slightly, gulping.
Please let this go well. I don't want to fail. I can't.
"Huh?!" Bakugo stared daggers at Aizawa sensei. "Why does that extra get to do the test by herself?"
Aizawa gave Bakugo a piercing stare back. "Then I suppose you'd like to work in a group of three?"
"Hell no!"
"Then, (y/n) will be paired up twice."
I don't know if that's any better than doing this by myself.
Sensei eventually shut Bakugo up from his complaints by using his scarf. Not too long after we were paired up. I ended up getting Tsuyu and Fumikage as partners.

-

I was amazed at how Ectoplasm was able to execute this battle, but of course, what do you expect from a pro hero? Tsuyu and I worked pretty well together, but I'm just glad we pulled it off.

I had to take another U.A. bus to get to my second exam location. Sensei told me that I would be receiving the lowest score from either fight to make scoring as unbiased as possible, meaning I had to give my all into both of the scenarios.

Once it was time for Fumikage and I to do the exam, I started to grow nervous.
"Hey," a deep voice disrupted my thoughts, "you're gonna do great."
"So are you." I smiled. "So what type of strategy should we come up with?"

We entered a spacious building that was eerily dark. It was almost like the lights were being covered. I would be lying if I said I could see anything but I was able to faintly hear calm breathing- more like deep breaths.
That's the quirk.
I stopped in my tracks, tugging on Fumikage's cloak to signal him to stop as well.
*"The quirk is darkness." I spoke telepathically to Tokoyami to avoid being spotted.
"I see." He spoke back, sounding a tad bit concerned.
We were interrupted by the loud intercom, "Team (y/n) and Tokoyami, practical exam. Ready, go!"
"Do you think you can do something with Dark Shadow? I know it's hard to control him when it's dark but I'm here to help you."

- - -

I thought about (y/n)'s proposition, taking a deep breath before I answered. "If I lose control get Aizawa Sensei immediately. I don't want you to get hurt."
"Stop saying nonsense. We're partners." She protested.
I tightened my fist, trying to keep my cool. "I'm serious. I'll head closer. You stay here just in case."

- - -

"Okay."* I nodded.
Bullshit. How am I supposed to run away from him if he gets in trouble? I'd rather fail than leave him.
I stood quietly, intently listening for Tokoyami to unleash Dark Shadow in all his glory. I could only see Dark Shadow's eyes glistening as he bounced around the trying to attack our proctor.

After only the span of a few seconds, I could feel Dark Shadow starting to become more agitated, and I could tell it was getting harder for the proctor to dodge him.
"(Y/n)!" Fumikage sounded desperate. "Go!"
I tensed up briefly before I sprung into action.
I can't imitate lightning or explosions in here, it's too risky. Dark Shadow's already causing damage to the building. Maybe... no, Aoyama's laser won't last long without side effects. But as long as Dark Shadow is distracting the proctor, I should have enough time to snap Fumikage out of this state of mind, and we can win this together.
I sprinted towards Fumikage, dodging Dark Shadow's ocasional attacks towards me.
"Fumikage!" I grabbed him firmly. "It's me!" I tried to snap him out of it.
It's not working. Crap. What should I do? I need him to react.
"Hey," I switched my tone to a much calmer demeanor. I held his face in my hands, trying my best to not shake, "I'm right here okay? There's nothing to worry about. It's just you and me, okay?" I reassured. I began to worry even more when he wasn't showing any signs of calming down.

- - -

My mind is overwhelmed. I can't think straight.
Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill.
I can make out a soft voice amidst the chaos in my mind.
Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill.
(Y/n)? Why is she still here? Dark Shadow could kill her.
"(Y/n)..." I grit through my teeth. "Go."
I'm starting to lose control.
Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill. Kill.

- - -

I continued to persist, "Everything's all right Fumikage. There's nothing to be afraid of. Take a deep breath and just listen to my voice. I'm gonna stay right here with you and we're gonna fight through this okay?" I smiled. I paused briefly, feeling tears streaming down Fumikage's face and onto my hands.
He's suffering so much...
I continued to reassure Fumikage as best I could, trying to distract him with some small talk. I also had to keep an eye on Dark Shadow, making sure he didn't hurt us.

After a long while, Fumikage started responding to me.
"(Y/n)..." he sounded much calmer than before, Dark Shadow was starting to slow down. He took a weak hold on my wrist, "you're... right here."
"Yes! I'm right here with you Fumikage." I embraced him, relieved. "I'm right here."

- - -

I started to regain my composure slowly but surely.
This has never happened before. Why now?
"Is Dark Shadow..." I looked around, noticing the damage that he had caused thus far.
Oh no.

- - -

I panicked when I remembered about the time limit.
"Hey, are you okay enough to control Dark Shadow?" I gripped the handcuffs we were given.
"Yes. Let's do this."
We made a short plan and got serious. I needed Dark Shadow to corner our proctor so I could handcuff him.

"Gotcha." I whispered under my breath as a handcuff clicked around the proctor's hand. Soon after, I heard the handcuffs clank on the floor.
What the...
"I don't just make shadows. I am the shadows." A shiver went down my spine before I was slammed into the nearby wall. Needless to say I got winded.
"(Y/n)!" Tokoyami yelled.
"G-go!" I weakly breathed out. I tried to talk to Fumikage telepathically, but it wasn't working. I felt like I was stuck in sleep paralysis. Suddenly, I was swooped up from the ground and tossed over someone's shoulder. Tokoyami?
"(Y/n)." His familiar, deep voice settled me nerves. "It's just you and me, okay?" He recited my words back to me.
He heard me...?
I remained frozen in place, only being able to hear the fast footsteps from Tokoyami. I could tell we exit the building when I could now clearly see the end of Fumikage's cape.
"Team (y/n) and Tokoyami have passed!"
"(N/n)! We made it!" He cheered. Unusual of him.
He called me (n/n)...
I abruptly got the feeling in my body again. I released myself from Fumikage's grip, turning to look at him. He looked so accomplished.
"We made it!" I looked around in disbelief.

-

The bus ride back to U.A. was as you'd expect. We were in a comfortable silence for most of the ride back.
"Thanks." Fumikage said quietly.
"Huh?" I was caught off guard.
"For helping me." He avoided eye contact. "With Dark Shadow I mean. No one's been able to snap me out of it."
"Well, there's a first time for everything!" I smiled widely. "I'm just glad you didn't get hurt."
"Are you okay?" He met my eyes.
"Yeah. My back hurts a little but it's nothing." I acknowledged the throbbing pain running down my spine.

-

Upon our return, our classmates asked us a lot of questions about our test.
"The screen was so dark, we couldn't see anything!" Midoriya whined, disappointed.
"It also took you guys the whole 30 minutes!" Ochako chimed in. "What happened in there?"
"We completed the test." Fumikage replied bluntly.
I laughed at his remark before saying, "nothing really. It was just difficult to pinpoint out proctor's location."
"Oh come on, 30 whole minutes? That can't be everything, right?" Kirishima raised his eyebrow.
"No, it isn't." I gave him a deceiving smirk. "I also got thrown into a wall."
Kirishima sighed in defeat.

A/N: As I was writing, I thought to mimic calming someone down from a panic attack. Of course I'm no expert, but I hope it turned out okay :)
I would also like to apologize for the delayed update; I've been really busy with school and work.
