Chapter 1
I was walking through the woods near my home when I felt the burning stare on my back. I turned around to scan the area but my eyes met nothing. I continued on walking and walking as feel of my strained legs eased me up a bit.
I sighed as I rested for a while.
Continuing my pace, I stumbled on to my favorite spot: the falls.
This place always calms my nerves down. It brings peace in my crazy mind. With its lush green vegetation surrounding the crashing water, it would give anyone the impression of paradise.
I love it here so much that I didn’t share it to anyone. Not even my best friends.
I sat down the biggest rock with a little bit flat space as if it’s meant to be sat upon.
As I pondered on my father’s earlier words, the prickling sensation started again. I looked behind me to see if there’s anyone there, but found nothing.
Nobody knew this place but me. At least, not that I know of. But in the last three years that I have been here, I met nobody but the small animals minding about their business.
I took off my shirt and denim, leaving me on my bikinis, and jumped into the cold, soothing water. I swam and swam with the afternoon heat bathing my skin. I sauntered over to where the falling water meets the calm below and let the crashing pressure massage my back. I moaned at the feeling. It felt so good.
I stayed there swimming as I always did until my back was stiff. I went over to the rock where my things were and started to put on my clothes. I heard the unmistakable crunching of dried leaves and the heavy pounding of feet over the crashing sounds of the falls.
I froze on my spot with my shirt half undone. I quickly scanned the area for the intruder and perked my ears up but the sound abruptly stopped. Not wanting to make any noise, I stepped down and walked cautiously towards my usual path towards home.
The noise wasn’t repeated and I let out the breath I didn’t know I was holding. As I walked back to my house, I was greeted by the smell of roasting beef.
Where is that comingfrom? I thought.
I sniffed. Wow, it tastes delicious!
I realized that I was walking to the direction of the mouth watering smell and I stopped on my tracks. I opened my eyes and mentally slapped myself. What if I get lost?
You wouldn’t be, you know these woods better than anyone else! the small voice in my mind said.
What if this is a trap whatsoever? The other said.
No, silly, you’re just being paranoid.
I huffed. I’m supposed to be going home, not sniffing the air like some hungry dog.
My stomach growled making it obvious that I am hungry.
I groaned and walked back to my path. I was absent-mindedly picking on leaves hanging above my head when I heard a soft voice.
