Chapter 9

It’s Monday, and school is here again. Ugh, I didn’t hate school, but I hated it when teachers were stupid. And by stupid, I was referring to Mr. Kane. I hate him. He was my history teacher and he attempted to embarrass me in front of the whole class by asking a bunch of ridiculously easy questions. So anyway, here I was, sitting with Wayne, Tristan and Caden, in Mr. Smith’s office. How rebel could you get?

“Can you buy me something from the cafeteria?” Wayne asked, giving me the puppy dog face he pulls off nowadays to get something he wants.

I rolled my eyes and said, “It doesn’t matter, you’d still make me, right?”

He gave me a toothy grin and nodded.

“You’re so mean to me!” I said, feigning hurt as I got up. “Anyone wants anything else since you’re all making me a slave?”

“Yeah,” both Caden and Tristan said.

I turned to the door and just before I skipped out I said, “I’ll sue you all! You slave drivers!” I heard them laugh at how childish I was.

As I was walking down the hall, I caught a glimpse of someone being pushed against a wall. The girl was trying all her might, but the guy was strong.

And guess who the guy was?

Ryan.

Oh no he’s not doing that!

I felt anger flare up inside me. This disgusting excuse of a human shouldn’t have been born.

I stormed my way to where they were and grabbed Ryan by the tops of his arm, shoving him to the side, and catching him off guard, he fell on his butt. I heard the girl gave a strangled cry as she was being held by him on the shoulders. I immediately let go of Ryan and wove my arm around her waist. I swear, I heard her breath go woosh! I steadied her on her feet and placed her firmly behind me as Ryan stood up shakily.

“Sonofa-,” he started but I cut him off by my fist.

Twice.

Thrice.

Four times.

By the fifth punch, he was sprawled on the floor whilst holding his face.

I sneered at him. “Last I remembered, you are the son of a bitch,” I spat, loathing clear on my tone.

I ignored the pulsing of aggravated veins on my knuckles and slung my arm around the girls trembling shoulder.

“Touch her again, or any other girls, without their consent,” I threatened, my voice filled with malice and burning hate, as I motioned another punch in his direction, making him flinch. “Are we clear?”

He nodded and I smirked. “Good to know.” I motioned for the girl to come with me to Caden’s office and she nodded slightly.

I didn’t let go of her until we were surely in the confinements of the hallway near Caden’s.

“What is your name?”

“You’re knuckles are--,”

“Well, that’s an interesting name. I wonder…” I pretended to think but I smiled at her. “Don’t worry about this,” I said, waving my hand dismissively which, by the way, hurts so I tried my best not to wince.

She noticed it still but smiled back, though a bit hesitantly. “I’m Brooklyn Ford. You can call me Brooke.”

“Hey, Brooke. I’m Tamara Jones. It’s just Tammy, though,” I said as if meeting her was perfectly normal. “I would love to shake your hand but.. uh, well, you can see…” I smiled sheepishly.
