Chapter 3
I didn’t understand I had to move here to New York. I didn’t know why I have to transfer schools. I never questioned my parents’ suggestions. I never ask for elaboration. That’s why I’m here, walking all alone to the public high school near my apartment.
When I entered the parking lot, I noticed that all eyes were on me. I quickly glanced down and scanned my clothes which composed of a tight red v-neck matched with my favorite ripped jeans, mid-calf gray boots and leather jacket. I know I have nothing on my face but lip balm and face powder so why is everyone staring?
I kept my head down and walked to the entrance hall and towards the old lady who sat behind the counter.
She smiled up at me when I caught her attention.
“You must be Tamara Jones, yes?”
I nodded and smiled back. She gave me my schedule and I saidgoodbye.
I turned around and bumped into someone. My small nose stung from the contact. “Ow”
“Sorry,” said a familiar voice.
I looked up. “Caden!” I said enthusiastically. I haven’t seen him since the incident at the park which was two days ago. I spent most of my time then by fixing my apartment more and buying a few things for school.
“Hey there, Tammy,” he greeted back, chuckling.
“You didn’t tell me you go to school too! Are you a senior like me?” I said, still beaming.
He shook his head. “No, I teach them,” he said simply.
What? Teach? Oh my god! My eyes widen in shock and my jaw dropped.
He tapped my chin and I immediately closed it, gulping.
“Wh-what?” I was dumbfounded. He would be my teacher? But-but…
“I’m the gym teacher here,” he said proudly. When I didn’t respond he asked, “So, you know where you would go?”
“Uh, no,” I said honestly.
“Well, that’s too bad.” He smirked. I narrowed my eyes at him and went back to checking my schedule.

I checked my map for the Calculus classroom but I can’t find it. Good thing I was early because I might have a little adventurous journey to my classrooms. I groaned at the thought. Caden must’ve pitied me because he said, “I’ll walk you to your classroom.” I was about to squeal and thank him but he cut me off, “But seeing as I’m your teacher, it won’t be allowed.” He smirked again.
I hissed playfully at him. “Whatever.”
He made a tsk-tsk sound and shook his head. “That may get you a detention, Tammy.”
I narrowed my eyes at him again and said, “Well then, see you, Mr. Smith.” I waved before walking past him and to my destination: Calculus Classroom.
Fortunately, it wasn’t hard to find so I arrived there first. I sat at the very back and pulled out my iPod. I still have 10 minutes before the bell ring so I rested my head on my harms.
Slowly, the class filled with students. I looked at my clock and realized I have 5 minutes to go.
Someone from my right plucked the ear bud out of my ear and put it in theirs. I was about to protest when he smiled at me so sweetly my voice disappeared. He held his finger to his lips silencing me. I was about to pull it back when another male spoke.
