The morning comes faster than I expected. The sun hits my eyes at a blistering rate. Searching around the room I notice all the curtains are open as I wipe the sleep from my eyes. I groan at the presence of both Elson and Mariela standing at the end of my bed, smiling brightly with their hands folded in their lap. They catch me off guard, but make no motions to leave me be.

Elson: "Did we frighten you princess?"

Mariela: "We were quiet. Weren't we?"

"I do not mean to be standoffish, but I am not use to this type of attention by other women, besides mother. Mornings I usually spend alone."

Elson: "You must wake up. That handsome Arel is coming to get you soon."

Mariela: " He is handsome isn't he sister."

Elson: " I heard from the other ladies that he is single."

Mariela: " I heard he enjoys men more than women."

Elson: "Really?"

"Ladies please stop talking. Let's just move on with the day."

Elson: "There is food on the table princess and Mariela will run your bath and I will choose your clothes and fix your hair."

I nod my head in compliance, instead of arguing with them. Once I finish eating and bathing, I notice a dress draped across my vanity chair. It is all white, almost sheer, with two slits on the side that will show my legs as I walk. It ties at the top, behind my head, and shows ample amount of cleavage.

"I can't wear that."

Mariela: "Why not princess? This dress is gorgeous. Women will be envious of your style."

"Is there any dress that matches the one I wore yesterday?"

Elson: "We got rid of it. The queen says 'you must blend in better, that this is your home..

Mariela: So you must dress the part.'"

Mouth dry, eyes hot, I can't formulate a response when harsh knocking on my bedroom door startles all three of us. The person outside waits for no response as the door swings open with a loud bang. In saunters Arel, with a sly grin on his face. Reminding me of the Cheshire Cat from the Wonderland book Xael read to me as a kid.

So sly and mischievous he is.

Arel: "I did not take you as the spoiled princess type. Why are you still wrapped in a drying cloth?"

"This dress is vulgar. Unbecoming of a lady, such as I to wear."

Shaking his head in displeasure, he makes his way back to the door, but not before speaking quickly once again.

Arel: " I do not care what you wear, but I will not be off schedule. Change quickly or I will drag you by the cloth wrapped around you. To wear garbs from your other world would be an insult to your people. It shows you do not care about how life runs around here."

The door slams shut.

Lips pressed in distaste I know this is an unwinnable battle as I stand up and snatch the dress from the chair before storming into the bathroom, shutting the door behind me with a loud bang. Dropping the cloth I mutter to myself words of distain.

"My mother would die a thousand times over is she could see me now. Indecent, improper, immoral."

I wipe away a tear that has made its way down my cheek as I stare at myself in the mirror.

"Who have I become?"

Mariela: "Princess I still have your hair to do. Can you come out?"

"Coming!"

I yell through the door.

Shake this feeling Winnie. I've never felt this empty in my whole life.

Elson ties the dress behind my neck as Mariela adds a crown of white Baby's-breath on top of my head. The last part of the outfit is a gold belt tied extremely tight around my small waist.

"Shoes?"

Elson: "Once you see the grounds you will see why shoes aren't a necessity here. Right sister?"

Mariela: "Right!"

I nod not wanting to waste any more time in the room. Walking slowly to the door, skin exposed for the world to see. Leaning against the wall opposite the door to my room stands Arel, arms crossed in a relaxed position. He stares at me, making strong eye contact before his eyes trail down my entire appearance. He locks eyes at me again, smiling, looking more friendlier than the day before.

Arel: "Ready?"

"I think so."

Arel: " First lesson. Never I think, maybe, perhaps. Your answer is either yes or no. You are a princess. Royalty. Act that way. Self doubt is a weakness. I will break out of you. Come follow me."

Picking up what the sisters call a "spear" he turns he back towards me, walking at a decent pace.

absentmindedly thinking up ways to escape to find Xael. I pay no attention to the art along the walls  or how many twists and turns we are making in this castle. It isn't until the sun light blinds me that I even realize we are outside. I bump directly into the hard back of Arel causing me to rub my nose due to the pain of the collision. He turns to face me.

Arel: "Forget fighting practice, you need princess lessons. You are ungraceful, uncoordinated, and klutzy. How can I train someone like you?"

He plucks me on the nose as I slap his hand away.

"Ow."

Arel: "So you do have fight in you?"

I roll my eyes, pushing past him to see the most magnificent garden I've ever seen.

Arel: "Your mother said this would be the perfect place to start our lessons."
