I ran back outside to grab the last of my boxes for my room. We had just moved to California after living in Cleveland for my whole life. It was my mom and dads home from when they were younger. They met here when they were my age. I grabbed the box and ran back up to my room. All around my room were posters of baseball players, my favorite being Babe Ruth of course.
I put the last of my poster on the wall and pictures on the shelf's. I had played baseball before but only with my dad. He passed away a while back. I was really good according to him. I always believed everything he said so I practiced all the time to make him proud. I grabbed my glove and my LA Dodgers hat. I know I lived in Cleveland and I should be supporting their teams, but my dad gave me his stuff from when he was my age and I never wore I different hat. I grabbed my ball from my shelf and ran down stairs and out the door.
I had no where else to go so I just went into my drive way and threw the ball up and caught it in my glove. I looked over at the pink house next door. There was a U-Haul truck and a boy that looked younger than me picking up boxes. He looked across the street and waved at something, or someone.
I looked over at the other side of the street. There was a boy, who looked around my age. He had brown hair and brown eyes and looked Hispanic. He looked over at the kid and did a nod that looked like he was trying to say 'sup'. He then saw me and smiled. I smiled back and kept throwing the ball in the air. I caught it and looked over and him. He nodded and walked back into his house.
The boy next door looked sad and walked into his house. After another 20 minutes of throwing the ball to myself my mom called me in for dinner.
"Hey honey" she said as I sat down.
"Hi mom. Did you know another family moved in next door the same time as us?" I asked.
"Yes I know!" She said sitting down. "I talked to the mom today. She is very nice and told me that she has a son a little younger than you."
"Yeah I saw him outside today" I said.
"Really?" she asked. "Did you talk to him?"
"No. I was throwing my ball and he just ran inside." I told her.
"I invited them for dinner tomorrow." she said.
"Ok" I replied.
The rest of dinner was us just chatting about stuff. After dinner I ran upstairs and sat on my bed looking at all the baseball stuff I had. I looked at the poster that my dad gave me. It was signed by Babe Ruth. THE Babe Ruth. I always looked at it amazed. Babe Ruth was a hero, no a legend. I got up and grabbed a picture of my dad and me. I sat back down on my bed. Tears started forming in my eyes as my mom walked in.
"Honey" she said. She looked at me, sat down and rubbed my back. I put my head on her shoulder and she said "He's still here you know. He's in this room, in our hearts, in your smile. He'll always be here Y/N." She kissed my head and said goodnight. After she left I put the picture back on the shelf. I went to bed and fell asleep thinking about what I'm gonna do tomorrow.
