Ryan’s POV
I face the window of our car as we pass the sign ‘Welcome to Moore Ville’. It’s been seven years since I last went to this town, a peaceful town unlike New York. The colour of the sky, the freshness of the air and the serine sound which had always resided at this town, its peacefulness has and will always be its attraction.
As I see the children playing I remembered how I spent my childhood here. I remembered her. Rose Campbell, a name that has glued in my mind.
She was always the center of attention, her raven hair, fair skin and her innocent expression made her look more like an angel. I was in the same class with her for five years and on top of that she was my neighbour; she was my best friend, my partner in crime.
I’ve known her as the root of all evil. We spent our school days skipping class and playing pranks on other students. Of course I was no exemption to her, she likes putting bugs in my bag just because it rhymes, and that’s why she did it, making me spend my monthly allowance for her candies and chocolate and more common things a leader would do to abuse its servant.
Although she acts like that, Rose is a very lonely girl. I know her more than anybody else in this world. Her family is a broken one since her father left her mother and went with another girl. Her mother blamed Rose for everything; she abuses her whenever she felt like it. Rose often comes to me to cry where I just pat her head, on the grounds that no wise words would cross my mind.
Then one day my parents suddenly wanted to move out. It was so sudden that I wasn’t able to tell Rose. I couldn’t make an argument with my parents; I was a freaking ten year old and besides my mom is the last person you would ever want to anger, trust me.
That night I placed a letter on their mailbox telling her that I would come back and I was sorry that I couldn’t tell her earlier. Though, I will surely miss her laugh every time we prank somebody, her genuine smile that could make me waver even though I’m angry at her, the way she calls my name that makes my heart beats like just I ran 10 kilometres in an instant . And all the things I wanted to protect.
I looked several times as we hit the road. Maybe I was expecting her to run and stop us but that would be impossible.
I felt like there were a hundred regrets in my heart as we slowly drove out of the town.
“Ryan!!” My mom called as I snapped out of my deep thought. ”Could you help us carry this dear” She said while carrying loads of boxes.
“Roger That” I replied stepping out of the car.
We started unpacking our stuff little by little and cleaning the house. I was positioned outside to make sure everything was in. I looked everywhere indicating any signs of Rose but she was not there. The lawn of her house has a sign ‘FOR SALE’ which gave me an obvious conclusion that she was no longer living there.
I looked at the last box with a horrible writing saying ‘Property of Jackson Ryan Thomson and Rose Campbell’. A smile appeared on my face and I started to open it. It was full of prank materials which made me think deep more about her again.
“Mom!” I yelled “we’re staying here permanently right?”
“I’m not yet sure dear, do you miss New York already?”
“Not really” I told her as I catch the newspaper that was thrown by a person riding a bicycle.
My eyes instantly went to the name which I had been day dreaming a lot. ‘Making your school year memorable’ an article by Rose Campbell a student from Patterson High.
“Uhmm.. Mom!!” I yelled again, but this time with a more lively tone “Can we talk about my school later?”
And Thus I am here today at Patterson High. I became unbelievably popular within a week although I am not one to question my incredibly good looking features.
