I walk along with my two friends Maia and Sam on a small cobbled street in the warm late afternoon sun in Jordan, Washington. A small town that had not much to offer. Almost everyone had be labeled. People are labeled with what they do best. For instant Maia was Jumper. If you saw here doing long jump or high jump you would know why. Sam was Shadow, let's just say your locks won't stop her. Me I'm Kicker, why you might ask well I can kick.
My name is Dani Hunt; I was born on February 29, 2000. Yep, it is great. I'm currently 15 but technically speaking I'm only 3. As I'm walking not really paying attention my toe hits a loose cobblestone. I trip and manage to catch myself before I can fall all the way. My friends laugh and my cheeks turn red embarrassed I look round no one else is around, so I let myself relax and join them in the joke.
As we round a corner I see the field I look over to my friends a small smile on my lips. "Race you?" I question; one eyebrow raised. Sam shakes her head but Maia nods. "You're on," Maia says before taking off. I sprint after her beating her by almost three seconds. Maia might do Track & Field, but she mostly sticks to the field.
As Sam finally arrives she shouts to Maia " I'm going to the bleachers I'll save you a seat" then she turns to me "good luck" she says. I smile and nod. Maia and I don't say a word we just put our hands out for our special handshake. We created the elaborate handshake years ago and have been doing it ever since. As it ends she pulls me In to a bro hug and whispers in my ear "you got this you will do great I believe in you." I nod and turn around to join my team.
The varsity girls are nice but I still feel out of place; I am the only freshman and there aren't even any sophomores on the team let alone other freshman. I started fall season as JV but got moved up for the spring season.
Coach Fern starts us on our warm up and I'm feeling good. I'm still fit from futsal and constant training and feel ready to go. As the game draws nearer I look up into the stands and see Sam and Maia, Sam is reading her book but Maia is watching the field. When she notices me looking she gives me our hand signal; two pointer fingers crossed. I send it back and follow my team into the locker rooms.
When we get the Coach looks at her clipboard she goes over the game plan and I listen intently. I don't expect to start but shockingly when she reads the lineup she says "and center mids: Olivia and Dani". I'm surprised but happy, my first varsity game and I'm starting. I had been doing well at practice but I didn't think I would start.
Five minutes later we all head to the field after captains shake hands and do the coin flip we start with the ball. As we huddle up I stand on the edge, but Mia a senior and forward pulls me into the circle and we all put our arms around each other. "Okay," says our captain Haley "I know last season didn't go well. but that's all going to change this season. We have a new coach we have a new player." I smile shyly "a new name and we have a new team." she finishes we nod and she continues.
"so what are we going to do". Olivia shouts out "win". "Right," says Haley with an amused smile. "And how are we going to do that," she says. "Teamwork" shouts out Jewels. "right," says Haley again "so let's go win this". We all start jumping and Haley calls "come on Reviens lets live up to our name". We start clapping and Haley calls out "1 2 3", "Reviens" we all shout. We take the field and I wait for the approaching whistle. 'We can do this' I think to myself. 'I can do this'.
A/N: I hope you guys like the first chapter, I'm not quite sure where this is going but I hope you enjoy.
