Max Dixon's POV

After dad and the others left, I went and collected our squirrels and took them over to the fire. I skin them and then start to cook them up. After I finish cooking them up I start to hand them out to everyone.

Soon Carl walks up to me completely soaked. "Woah, What happened to you, kiddo?"I ask. "Shane and I tried to catch some frogs."Carl explains. "Catch any?"I ask. "No."He replies. "Here, this is better than some frog."I say as I hand him some squirrel. "Thanks Max."Carl says before he started eating it. Then Lori walks up and takes Carl with her to their tent.

I then head down to the girls who were by the lake doing laundry to give them their share of squrrill. And I am shocked by what I see. Shane is beating the holy hell out of Ed. All of the girls are yelling at him to stop. Eventually Shane stops and walks back to camp. I head down to the girls as Carol is crying next to Ed.

I hand the plate of squirrel to the Amy before heading over to Carol and Ed. "Here, let me help you get him back to your tent."I say softly. I'm not gonna lie but I think Ed got what he deserved. He was always hitting Carol and Sophia. But I felt bad for Carol so that's why I was going to help.

Andrea comes up and helps me pick him up. We throw each of his arms over our shoulders and carefully start to walk him back up to camp with the other girls right on our tail. Carol leads us to thier tent and we carefully set Ed in it. "Thank you, Max."Carol cries hugging me before sitting next to Ed.

After that I head back to my tent and sit down outside of it. I had grabbed some squirrel before heading over here so I started to eat that as I took out my book and started to read again. I was already half way through it. This book is about these 2 male teenagers that meet in a post office and fall in love with each other. But they each left the post office without knowing each other's names or numbers and now they are trying to find each other again. It's kinda funny too.

I continue reading before getting interrupted by Morales laughing  and clapping. I put my book down and walked up to everyone to see Amy and Andrea with a ton of fish. "Max, look. Look at all the fish."Carl says happily. "Yeah, that's a lot of fish, kiddo."I say chuckling as Carl poked them.

"Where did you 2 learn to do that?"Lori asks. "Our dad."Amy says. "Can you teach me how to do that?"Carl asks excitedly. "Sure. I'll teach you all about nail knots and stuff. If that's okay?"Amy asks Lori. "You won't catch me arguing."Lori says.

Then Dale approaches us. "Hey Dale. When was the last time you oiled those line reels? They are a disgrace."Andrea asks. "I, uh, I don't want to alarm anyone, but we may have a bit of a problem."Dale says getting everyone's attention. He than points up the hill behind him. We all look up and see Jim shoveling away at the ground.

"What the hell is he doing?"Lori asks."Let's go find out."Shane says as we all head up the hill and towards Jim. "Hey, Jim. Jim, why don't you hold up, all right?"Shane asks. Jim stops shoveling and turns to face Shane.

"What do you want?"Jim asks. "We're all just a little concerned, that's all."Shane says. "Dale says you've been out here for hours."Morales says.  "So?"Jim asks. "So why are you digging? Are you heading to China, Jim?"I ask. "What does it matter? I'm not hurting anyone."Jim states as he starts to dig again.

"Yeah, well except maybe yourself. It's 100° today. You can't keep this up." Dale says. "Sure I can. Watch me."Jim says as he still keeps on shoveling. "Jim, they're not gonna say it so I will. You're scaring people. You're scaring my son and Carols daughter."Lori says stepping forward.

"They got nothing to be scared of. I mean, What the hell people? I'm out here by myself. Why don't you all just go and leave me the hell alone?"Jim asks. "We think that you need to take a break, Okay?"Shane asks stepping forward. "Why don't you just go and get yourself in the shade? Some food maybe. I'll tell you what maybe in a little bit I'll come out here. I'll help you myself. Jim, just tell me what it's about. Why don't you just go ahead and give me that shovel?"Shane asks.

"Or what?"Jim asks stopping again. "There is no or what. I'm asking you. I'm coming to you. And I'm asking you, please. I don't want to have to take it from you."Shane says. "And if I don't, then what? Then you're gonna beat my face in like Ed Peletier, aren't you?" Jim asks. I got fed up with this so I turned around and started to head back to camp.

Suddenly a figure grabbed my left hand and walked with me. I looked down and saw Carl. I smile softly and squeeze his hand reassuringly. "Don't worry, kiddo, I'll protect you."I say. "I know you will."Carl says confidently. I chuckle lightly and start to swing our hands causing Carl to laugh.

We soon git back to camp and headed towards my tent. "What do you want to do, kid?"I ask. "Can you tell me a little about yourself?"Carl asks. "Hhmmm, how about we play a game. 20 questions?"I ask. "Yeah!"Carl says happily. "Okay, you go first."I say.

"What's your favorite color?"Carl asks after a few seconds of thinking.

"Blue. What's your favorite color?"I ask.

"Blue!! How old are you?"Carl asks since I never told him.

"15. What's your favorite food?"I ask.

"Chocolate pudding. What's your favorite food?"Carl asks.

"Deer meat. Have you ever dated anyone?"I ask.

"No, have you?"He asks.

"No, are you gay?"I ask.

"No, I'm Bi. Are you gay?"He asks.

"Yes, Do you have a crush on anyone?"I ask.

Carl's face heats up at that question. "I-I do-dont know."Carl stutters out. I smirk at how flustered he got. "How do you not know? It's either you do or you don't?"I ask. "I-I do like someone"Carl sighs. "Who?"I ask.
"I li-like-,"Carl was cut off by his mother calling his name. "I-I gotta go."Carl says jumping up and running towards his mother.

"Dammit, Lori."I mutter under my breath. I was just about to find out who he liked. I'll have to ask later. I stand up and stretch hearing a few bones pop. I wipe the sweat off of my forehead. I'm gonna go for a swim. It could do me some good. So I walk down the trail to the lake and strip down to my boxers before jumping in the water.

I groan when I come back up. It sure was refreshing. I swam around for awhile and cooled down. It was getting dark and I could smell the fish cooking. I wonder when dad and uncle Merle are gonna be back. Maybe we could all go out on a hunting trip together and see who can catch the most.

I get out of the water and grab my clothes before heading back towards my tent. I changed into a fresh outfit and headed up to the campfire and sat down with everyone else. Amy handed me some fish and I thanked her before digging in. This by far was the best meal I've ever had since the world ended.
