Max Dixon's POV
I stayed in the bedroom with Carl until Rick came in with ...Lori? When did she get here? "How?" I ask as I look at her. "The woman, Maggie, went and got her."Rick explains. I nod before stepping out of the room to give them some space.
I walk out and sit back down on the porch. There was a beautiful sunset but it didn't make me smile. How could I? Carl was inside this house with 5 fragments of a bullet in his chest. Suffering. Nothing could make me smile other than Carl getting up and walking out of there healed and okay. I just hoped Shane and Otis got back soon with the stuff to save Carl.
Then I heard multiple car engines. I look up and see the RV, the station wagon and my dad's motorcycle pull up towards the house. I slowly stand up and walk down the stairs of the porch as everyone gets out of the cars and head up towards me.
But what shocked me the most was that standing next to Carol was Sophia.
"Sophia?"I ask shocked to see she was okay. "We found her in a small shack in the woods."Andrea explains. "How's the kid?"Dad asks as they all stop in front of me."He's alive. Shane and a man named Otis went to get the supplies for Carl's surgery."I explain. "Surgery? All we now is that Carl got shot. What the hell happened exactly?"Dale asks.
"On our way back we saw a deer. Carl walked up to it and it just stood there and watched him. Then there was a gunshot and both the deer and Carl fell down. Otis had shot the deer and the bullet went straight through it and into Carl's chest. Otis told us to bring him here so we did. There's a man here, Hershal, he says that the bullet broke up into 6 fragment when it hit Carl. He managed to get one out, but he needs to perform a surgery to get the rest out so Shane and Otis went to get the right equipment. And here we are."I sigh.
Everyone looked shocked when I finished. "Where's Rick and Lori?" Carol asks. "Inside with Carl."I say. "T-Dog cut open his arm. Can they help him?"Glenn asks. "Yeah, just go inside and ask."I say. They nod and Glenn and T-Dog head inside while the rest of us stay outside.
Then Maggie steps out. "How about you all come inside, get something to eat."She suggests. We all agree and head in. Maggie leads us into the dining room and tells us to have a seat. We all find a chair and sit down as Maggie pours us all some bowls of soup.
We all sit quietly as we eat. Too many thoughts were running through my head. Sophia was alive but Carl was barely alive. Shane and Otis still weren't back yet. The group was all here and we were eating a hot meal.
Soon we finished out soup and we all spread out in the living room and dining room. I was sitting in the living room close to the bedroom in case Carl woke back up. Everyone was silent as we thought. What next? Who's gonna die next? Are Shane and Otis even gonna make it back? Is Carl gonna live?
Then I heard Carl coughing. I quickly get up along with Rick and Lori and we head into the bedroom to see Carl was awake and freaking out. "Where are we?"He asks as he looks around himself in fear and confusion. "Hey, kiddo."I smile slightly at him. "Max!"Carl says happily as he sees me.
"That's Hershal. We're in his house. You had an accident. All right?"Rick asks. "It hurts, a lot."Carl says looking at his chest. "Oh baby, I know. I know."Lori says petting his hair gently. "You should have seen it."Carl says smiling as he looks at his mother.
"What?"Lori asks confused. "The deer. It was so pretty, mom. It was so close. I've never been..."Carl stops talking as his eyes widen and he stares up at the ceiling. "Carl?"Rick asks as we all freak out. Please tell me he didn't just die. Tears threatened to fall as I stared at him.
Then Carl's body started shaking as he grunted. Rick and Lori try to grab him but Hershal yells at them. "Don't. It's a seizure. If you hold him down, you could hurt him."Hershal explains as Carl continues to shake. I quickly stand up and go towards the door before opening it and heading out closing it behind me.
As soon as I was in the living room I see everyone else stareing at me expectantly. But all I could get out was a sob before running out the front door and onto the porch. I sit down and bring my knees up to my chest as I cry. No, no, no ,no. Please no. Not yet.
Then the door opens and my dad walks out and comes up to me. As soon as he gets to me I jump up and wrap my arms around his body. He quickly hugs back as he rubs my back. "Hey, he's gonna be a'right."Dad whispers.
"But what if he's not? What if he dies?"I ask as I cry into his shoulder. Dad than pulls away but keeps his hands on my shoulders. "That kid in there is strong. He's gonna make it. You just have to have hope."Dad says making me laugh. "I said the same thing to Carl earlier. He was losing hope in Sophia being alive."I explain.
"Well, she's alive so that means he's gonna make it too."Dad says. I hug him again at that. "Thanks, dad."I whisper. "Anytime, Max."He replies. "Can we stay out here for a little longer? I'm not ready to go back in there yet."I ask. "Yeah, we can stay out here."Dad agrees. So we both sit down on the porch bench and watch out into the night.
Then the truck that Shane and Otis took pulled up and Shane got out with 2 bags of sipplies. In that moment I knew. Carl was gonna live.
