Max Dixon's POV

The baby then started to cry as Maggie held it. Dad crouched down in front of Rick and waved his hand in his face since Rick looked to be in some type of daze. But who could blame him. He just lost his wife. The person he loved all his life was just ripped away from him.

"Rick, you with me? Rick?"Dad asks as he continues to wave his hand in his face. Carl then pulled away from our hug and went to Maggie and took the crying baby out of her arms. "Let me see the baby."Hershal says as Carl walks over to him.

"What are we gonna feed it? We got anything a baby can eat?"Dad asks as he stands up. "The good news is she looks healthy. But she needs formula. And soon or she won't survive." Hershal explains. "Nope. No way. Not her. We ain't losing anybody else. I'm going for a run."Dad says.

"I'll back you up."Maggie says. "I'll go, too."Glenn states. "Okay, think where we're going. Beth, Max."Dad calls to us. We walk over to him as he whispers. "Kid just lost his mom. His dad ain't doing so hot."Dad explains.

"We'll look out for him."I assure as I glance at Carl. Dad nods and calls out to the prisoners. "You two get the fence. Too many pile up, we got ourselves a problem. Glenn , Maggie, v'amonos."Dad orders. Then Rick stands up and grabs the axe before heading towards the door Maggie and Carl came out of. We called after him but he ignored us and walked in.

"Get the gate. Come on, we're gonna loose light."Dad says as he walks towards the cars. Glenn and Maggie follow him as the prisoners go towards the gates. I stay next to Carl, Beth, Hershal and the baby as I watch everyone walk off.

Then I hear dad's motorcycle start up. I look over and see dad and Maggie on the motorcycle and driving out of the gate as Glenn comes towards us. "Come on, let's get the baby inside." Hershal says. We all walk inside while Glenn and the prisoners stay outside.

Beth takes the baby to her cell and gets her to quiet down while Hershal stays in the front room. Carl and I head up to our cell and he sits down on the bed. He still had his stone face on and I was having enough of it.

"Carl, you don't have to act tough in front of us. In front of me. We care about you. It's okay to cry once in a while. You just lost your mom. Please show your emotions so I can help you. Talk to me. Please baby boy."I plead as I sit in front of him.

Carl then sniffs before the tears start to pour down his face. I pull him into a hug as he sobs into my shoulder. "I- I ha-ad  to k-kill her."Carl cries and he clutches on to me. "What do you mean?"I ask confused. "S-she di-ied giving bir-rth to the b-baby, and I had t-to shoot her s-so she wouldn't c-come back."Carl explains through his tears.

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry you had to do that. No one should have to go through that. I love you so much."I say as I hug him tighter. Carl continues to cry as I hold him and gently rock him back and forth. He soon cries himself to sleep in my arms. I lay back and cover us up and I continued to hold him.

Not only did Carl loose his mom, he had to shoot her too. No kid should have to do that to their mother. He probably blames himself too. Oh, god. Him and Lori were in a fight before she died. He was angry at her for having sex with Shane and not being a good mother.

I just hope that Maggie and Dad get back soon. We can't loose the baby too. We just can't. I continue to rub Carl's back as Beth then walks in. The baby was asleep in her arms as she looks at Carl. "How is he?"She whispers.

"He's upset. He just had to shoot his mother in the head."I explain. Beth looks shocked at this. "H-he put Lori down?"She asks. I nod as I look back down at him. Beth walks back out probably to process this information while I cuddles Carl.

After awhile Carl woke back up and wanted to see the baby. I lead him back downstairs and into the front room where Beth and Hershal were with the baby. "Can I hold her?"Carl asks as we approach.

"Of course you can."Beth says as she hands the baby girl to Carl. Carl smiles slightly at the baby as he rocks her. After a little while she started to cry. Carl tried to Calm her down but she wouldn't. She was hungry. She needed formula soon or else she would die.

Then Maggie and my dad walked in. "Beth."Maggie calls as Beth stands up and they hug. Daryl then comes over to Carl and I. "How's she doing?"Dad asks as he looks at the baby. Dad then takes the baby and shhs her as he stands back up and rocks her.

Beth then hands him a bottle of formula as Glenn and the prisoners walked in. Dad started to feed the baby as we all silently watched. Everyone smiles as the baby started to drink the formula. Dad chuckles as he looks up at us.

"She got a name yet?"He asks Carl. "Not yet. But I was thinking maybe Sophia. Then there's Carol too. And Andrea. Amy. Jacque. Patricia. Or, Lori. I don't know."Carl says as he turns away from the baby and I pull him into a hug.

"Yeah, you like that? Huh? Little
ass-kicker. Right? That's a good name, right?"Dad asks causing us all to laugh. "Little ass-kicker. You like that, huh? You like thay, sweetheart?"Dad asks as he continues to feed her.

After he fed her she fell asleep in his arms and Beth took her. "We should all get some rest. Especially after the day we had."Hershal states as everyone nods. I lead Carl back up to our cell and we sit down on the bottom bunk.

I kick off my shoes before pulling Carl's off him. We both lay down on the bed as I wrap my arms around his waist and pull him close to me. "It's gonna be alright. Okay? We're still here. What happened to your mom wasn't your fault. She doesn't hate you, she loves you. She's watching over you right now."I say as I look him in the eyes.

"Thank you, Max. I love you."Carl says as he cuddles into my chest. "I love you, too cowboy."I say as I hold him close. We soon fall asleep hopeing the worse was over. But it was just getting started.
