"I have died everyday waiting for you, darling don't be afraid I will love you"
-Christina Perri, A Thousand Years
______________¤______________Prologue
Saoirse's birth took the world by storm, well at least she surprised her parents.
It was a night her parents have been waiting for. 9 months, 8 days to be precise and it was a night they couldn't forget. Even if they wanted to so badly.
Let's start from the beginning shall we?
It was November 2000 when her mother realised she was pregnant. She was ecstatic but anxious all the same, she still has dreams to achieve, a year until graduation and worst of all, she had no money. She couldn't even manage herself, let along a baby.
She was married a month later, with the father of her child. They were hopelessly in love and her father was willing to sacrifice his career for her and her mother. They were a happy young couple.
Her father graduated early, it was quite easy for him, being a valedictorian and all. As soon as he graduated he applied for every job he thought possible. Apparently, luck wasn't on his side as he skipped his work placement year. No multinational company, accepted his inexperience, despite his grades and talent.
He was close to giving up, when one of the companies that rejected him offered a him a job as a draughtsman. He was too qualified for the position but accepted it nonetheless.
For his job, they had to move from Birmingham to Reading, a fairly large town near London. They had no choice but to move, they needed to sacrifice things for happiness.
Her mother ended up getting a job in a local prestigious high school near their neighbourhood as a Biology teacher. It was a decent job, her students are rarely problematic and all seemed eager to learn.
When her mother's pregnancy struck about 7 months, it was the day she has been dreaming of, she imagined the possibility of how her child will turn out.
Will it be a lock or key?
Her mother's gynaecologist, Dr. Henna has been waiting for her parents' arrival with a big smile on her face. She always loved the antics of first-time parents, especially with young love blossoming in the air.
Her mother lied down next to a small monitor, her stomach coated in blue gel. She smiled when a faint heartbeat was heard, her father smiled too, kissing her mother's forehead. It was a picture perfect moment.
Dr. Henna smiled knowingly, she let them savour the moment for a little while. She started to move the scanner round her mother's stomach and finally found what she was looking for.
"Alright, ready to know the gender?"
Her parents did little to mask their nervousness and hesitantly turned to the screen next to her mother in anticipation.
"Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Davies, it's a key! You will be giving birth to a healthy baby boy in the months to come"
Her parents were ecstatic upon hearing the news. Truthfully, they always wanted a male first born. It has been her mother's dream ever since she was pregnant. They were starstruck by the formation of the key growing inside her mother.
Months later, after loads of house decorating and shopping for baby Gabriel, the big day has come forth.
It was unusually stormy for a summer night. Her mother was rushed to the labour room and went through a partially rough labour.
Four hours later, a cry was heard. Everyone in the room let out a breath, relieved that the task was done.
As per request by her mother, Dr. Henna was there to assist the midwife in labour.
"Congrats, Mr. and Mrs. Davies it's a....girl?
Everyone in the room was momentarily stunned. Her father tried to mask his disappointment and her mother was pale in shock.
Dr. Henna picked up the wailing baby and proceeded on with the procedure. She was very much taken by the newborn infront of her.
She was born with soft auburn hair and weight of 3.6 kilograms. But the thing that caught her attention the most was the lock attached to the chain around her neck.
Her lock was the most intricate lock she has ever seen. And she has seen a lot in her line of work. It was key-shaped with swirling black gems near the key-hole.
Dr. Henna beamed at the masterpiece in her arms savouring the last moment in the presence of the ethereal beauty in front of her.
Reluctantly, she handed her to her mother to be nursed. She gave her another longing work and left to give the new parents space.
Her mother was still in a trance of shock after what just unfolded. She was ready for a son. Painted the nursery blue with an 'under the sea' theme. Bought blue toys and clothing. They even custom made a blanket for Gabriel.
Will she like it?
Her father went out to get some fresh air. And her mother stayed inside with thoughts swarming her head.
They can do this, they will figure this out. They always do.
