2. When Saoirse finally made a friend

Saoirse woke up to the extreme wind blowing from her open window. She unwillingly dragged herself to shower and donned her uniform on.

She grabbed her backpack and crept downstairs to prepare breakfast before everyone woke up. She thought she'd make sandwiches today.

With that thought in mind, she skipped to the kitchen only to abruptly halt at the sight of her family looking at her like she belonged to the mental asylum at the edge of town.

Embarrassed, she sat down at the breakfast bar with her head down. She started to eat her breakfast in silence, which consisted of Cheerios and milk.

No sandwiches today then.

She wondered why everyone was up early today. Is there a special occasion that she forgotten? Someone's birthday, maybe? She didn't dare to ask.

"Where did you go last night?" her father interrogated.

She raised her eyebrows in question, confused. She didn't go anywhere last night. She was here doing her daily chores, as per usual.

"Your mother called for you this morning and you didn't respond. Plus, your window was open. You must have been some where else besides your room."

"I didn't hear her calling, dad" Saoirse answered, truthfully.

"Then, you must be deaf then, I'm not surprised, you always stuff your ears with those ear torture devices"

Saoirse stayed quiet even though she has a lot to say to her father. She didn't dare to talk back to them, it would be too disrespectful.

There was chatter at the table, it was her brother this time chatting everyone's ear off about how his teacher told him he could be the first man on Jupiter. She complimented his research project on Jupiter, the project that Saoirse made for him.

She should have complimented her, she should be the first woman to step on Jupiter. Not that it would be possible, unless she wanted to kill herself. That would look nice on her tombstone won't it?

Here lies, Saoirse Gabriel Davies who volunteered to kill herself to be the first person on Jupiter.

Yeah, that would be awesome she thought.

College was the same, she coming in late into class, making up nonsense on why she didn't get to finish her assignments. Her lecturers giving her a look of disappointment. Same old, same old.

Before she knew it, the final bell rang and she trudged to the administration office.

She gently knocked on the door and let herself in. Saoirse was greeted by the sight of the clerk talking animatedly on the phone. The clerk saw her and immediately frowned, annoyed that she had to cut her conversation short.
