Chapter 5 - Sharing a house

I woke up in dark room. I was in a comfy bed. I didn't know how I got here.

I remembered getting beat up by the three thugs and I remember somebody yelling stop, but I don't know who. (Lol this is sooooo obvious)

I got out of bed and looked around. The window was open and it was dark outside.

Whoever owned the house was probably still sleeping. I quietly opened the door and was in a long hallway.

I tip-toed down the hall and down the stairs, then I looked around. I was in a kitchen, and I was feeling a bit hungry.

I turned towards the fridge, getting a smirk on my face.

Ok, I admit it.

I ate all the cookies.

In the middle of my great cookie feast, somebody comes down the stairs. I open the fridge and hide inside, curling into a ball. "It's cold in here."

I hear someone walk by the fridge. "Food time." They say.

They open the fridge. "AGGGGH WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU!" It was Nine, and she was not happy. I dash out of the fridge and up the stairs. I find another set of stairs and run up those too.

I'm in some sort of attic. Boxes are scattered throughout the room.

I sit down behind one of the boxes and wait.

I hear footsteps coming close to the stairs and then coming up.

Before they reach the top I go into one of the larger boxes and sit still.

The footsteps come closer to my hiding place and suddenly something hurts the palm of my hand. "Ah!"

Biting my hand, was a little snake-like thing, except it had legs.

I heard something move and suddenly my box was opened. Standing over me was Nine, and she didn't look like she wanted to be friends.

"Welcome to Nines school of how to not piss me off!"

"So, Cody. What did we learn today?" She asked. "Don't piss you off?" I guessed.

My body was covered in bruises after she attacked me.

I walked out of the attic and down the steps, making a mental note to never hide in fridges ever again. They get you attacked.

I sat down on the couch and turned on the television. I sat there for a while before Nine came down.

"Whatcha doin?'" She asked. "Just watching television." I replied

I turned the television off and looked at her. She looked like she was going out.

"Where are you going?" I asked. "Work."

"I'll see you later." I said. "Yup." She said.

As soon as she left, I went to go explore inkopolis. As I was walking someone pulled me to the side and when I turned around I saw it was the grey haired girl from before.

"Why are you staring at me like that?" I asked her. She looked down. "Sorry."

"So, why have you been spying on me?" I asked. She looked up. "Spying on you?" She asked. "I was OBSERVING you."

"Ok, but then why did it disappear every time I went to investigate?" I asked. "Because it wasn't the right time to meet." She said.

"I'm Marie." She said. I smiled. "Cody."

"Ok. We need to go somewhere private." Said Marie.

"Like where?" I asked. "Octo valley." She said.

She stepped onto one of the drains. "Uh.. I can't follow you." I said. "Why not?" She asked. "I'm not an inkling.. or an Octoling."

"Oh, you can't turn into a squid?" She asked. "Nope." I replied. "Then what are you?" She asked. "A human." I said.

"A human? But those were supposed to be extinct.." she said. "What do you mean extinct?" I asked.

She looked at me. "A wave killed all the humans.. except you." She said. "So I'm the last human?" I asked. "Yup!"

"Ok, so how to we get to octo valley?" I asked. "Usually I'd take the drain, but I can find a way to get you there." She said.

"For now, go back home. I'll find a way. I always do." She said. "Alright." I said back.

I started to head back home, but something seemed wrong.

I started walking faster, and faster but every so often I could've sworn I'd heard footsteps following me.

My walk broke into a run, and suddenly three people jumped out of one of the trees.

"SPLAT THE KID!" Yelled one of them, which I remembered from the day before when I was beat up."

I ran faster and faster through the forest and soon I saw the top of a mansion.

I ran towards it and the thugs behind me got closer. I remembered what they could do and what they would do.

"I ran faster and faster until I reached the mansions. I pounded on the door and the thugs got closer.

The big one got up in my face. "Well, looks like this is the end for you, punk." I backed into the door and suddenly I was pulled inside.

I heard the door shut behind me and I turned around. There was an Octoling that looked familiar, but I couldn't place it.

"So." She said. "What are you doing here." I recognized her voice, and I searched my thoughts. This was Marina! The Octoling for the show off the hook!

"Hey! You made them stay away from me!" I said. "Why?!" She looked away. "I'm sorry, we didn't know what you were, but when Nine informed me..."

"You know Nine?!" I asked. "Yeah, I work with her sometimes." She said.

A voice from the back yelled "Mariiiina! Whooooo is at the door!?" It must be Pearl back there, I thought.

"No worries, Pearl! It's just the human!"

"WHAT! MARINA YOU LET HIM INTO OUR HOUSE HOW COULD YOU NO WHY WOULD YOU HE COULD BE DANGEROUS HES NOT AN INKLING LIKE YOU AND ME AND NINE SAID HE ATE ALL THE COOKIES!"

Pearl kept screaming about me and I turned around to leave.

While they were still arguing, I snuck out the door and ran back to Nines house.

When I got there, I opened the door, ran upstairs and flopped on my bed.

Soon later, Nine came back.

She opened my door and I sat up.

"Hi Nine!" I said happily.

She looks at me, with a puzzled look on her face.

"Cody.. your eyes... they're purple.."
