After Elizabeth had left and the servants had cleared up the hall everyone retired for an early night. Mabel had changed out of her dress and those ridiculous - but cute - cate accessories. After slipping on a plain white nightgown she buried herself under the cream coloured counterpane and sighed deeply. She placed a hand on her human heart and could feel the small organ thumping quickly and quietly. She's noticed it had started to do that a lot ever since she had come here but she'd never known quite what it meant since she'd been too lazy to learn some human anatomy before coming to earth.

She rolled over and looked at her hand. Her nails had always been beautiful and just the right size. Not too long and not too short. She prided herself on keeping her nails looking flawless. Her eyes then rested on her very own contract symbol. Although she wasn't a contractor demon like Sebastian demons all had a unique symbol on their left hand. They could use it for many things, possible prey, marking territory, mates.

Suddenly an image of the Phantomhive butler flashed in her mind.

"What? Why am I thinking of him now?" Mabel smacked her own cheeks to try and 'wake herself up.'

Suddenly, a meow was heard from under the bed. Mabel jumped and moved over to look under. She saw two blue eyes staring at her curiously. Instantly recognising the creature Mabel grabbed the kitten and pulled her up onto the bed. The kitten purred and snuggled closer to the demoness.

"Why hello there. I believe the last time I saw you was in Sebastian's room, wasn't it? What are you doing here?"

The kitten - obviously - didn't answer.

"Oh that's right your a cat your not supposed to talk. Oh well, would you like to stay with me tonight?" The tabby grey meowed in response and Mabel took this as a yes. She carefully pulled the covers over her and the kitten and brushed her cheek against its soft fur.

"You know kitten, I think this place is taking a shine to me. I very much like the household and all the servants, despite how incompetent they seem to be. And Sebastian has been so helpful over the past week. That's so strange for a demon like himself, isn't it? That silly man. It was sweet of him though.... does he always help people like that? Do you think I could be as nice as him one day even though I'm meant to be the opposite? I like this new way of acting. It's such a gentle appearance even though I'm only starting to change. I hope I don't ever have to return to my old ways again. What do you think?" Mabel had then realised that she had just had a chat with... a kitten.

"Ugh I'm so sorry. You probably think I'm mad right now. Talking to a cat as if it can understand me." She face palmed and faced the ceiling.

"Maybe I should try and sleep for once. It is said that sleeping can be a luxury for demons." The kittens ears suddenly perked up and twitched.

Mabel looked at the kitten. "What is it?" Then there was a sharp knock at the door. Struggling out of bed, she tiptoed over to the door carrying the kitten in her arms.

"Yes? Who is it?"

"It's Sebastian," he replied from the other side." I believe you have something of mine in your room."

Mabel guessed he was referring to the tiny creature she was carrying. She slowly opened the door and smiled at Sebastian. "Yes it seems this kitten of yours really likes me. She was hiding under my bed. Does she have a name? I don't want to call her kitten all the time."

Sebastian slowly took the kitten as he answered," Mittens is her name."

"Mittens! How adorable I think you've rubbed off on me Sebastian. I've only known of these creatures for a week and they've already made themselves a place in my ice cold heart." Mabel gave Mittens one last tickle on her tummy before looking at Sebastian. "Thank you Sebastian."

"For what?"

"For everything. You don't know how much this means to me. You've given me a character, a new start. I look forward to the following weeks I spend with you."

"You're very welcome Mabel."

"Now," The demoness feigned a yawn." I'm going to indulge myself and try this luxury called sleeping. I suggest you do the same. I've heard it's really good."

"Of course, my dear." And with that the butler went into the room next door.

When Sebastian was back in his room he set Mittens down on the floor to sleep with the other cats by the fireplace and he went over to his bed. He stripped down until he was only in his dress shirt and trousers and slipped under the covers. He was still very confused of what he had overheard Mabel muttering in her room. She'd said that he was helpful?! He was a demon, a powerful one at that. His name was not meant to appear in the same sentence as that word. Still, he could feel his human heart fluttering and his cheeks becoming warm when she'd said that about him. And she said that he was sweet and she wanted to be as nice as him. And her smile! He might have been so bold as to say she had the smile of an angel!

"What am I thinking? This isn't like me!" He inwardly cringed at his lovey dovey thoughts. "Have I caught some absurd human illness?" Sebastian knew what he had to do. He didn't even bother to dress properly and he went to the library.
After an hour of searching through many medical encyclopaedias Sebastian had come up with nothing! There was no sort of illness that had symptoms of fast paced heartbeats, warm cheeks, loving thoughts and constantly thinking of one person. In frustration Sebastian hit one of the bookshelves with his fist and about ten books all fell to the floor. As he was picking them up his glowing eyes focused on one book in particular. Specifically the fact that it had,' my heart was beating fast' in it. He skimmed through the book and saw that all of his symptoms were there. He flipped over to the front cover and saw a picture of a man and a woman looking at each other in the eye.

"It's a romance novel?" Sebastian was confused. Why would his medical symptoms be stated in a romance novel? Unless he wasn't sick. He suddenly remembered a time Elizabeth was at the manor talking to MeyRin about how she wanted to be in love with Ciel when they were older. She'd said they'd always say lovey dovey thinks and act all cute and then she talked about how her heart raced whenever she thought of him now. She was in love with Ciel. Was he... in love with Mabel?

"But that's impossible!" He paced quickly around the room." I'm a demon I'm not supposed to have these feelings. Also even if I am it's not meant to happen this fast! Humans often take a long time to grow feelings for another being and I've only known her for a week. What if she seduced me?..... no she's far too below me to be able to do that. Then how?" The demon nervously sat down in one of the many armchairs in the library. He rested his head in his hand and thought long and hard.

"What if I've grown feelings this fast because I'm a demon? We are stronger than humans so maybe we develop feelings faster."

Then he did something completely unexpected. He smiled. A genuine smile, not the fake one he gives the young lord.

"I do love her smile. If it was up to me I would always want to see her with like that. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to be in love with another demon like me.
