Chapter Four

Oliver White

I was staring at the wall clock waiting for it to strike One. Constantly worrying about the homework I didn't do for the next subject, I figured that if I got out early enough I'll be able to practice the piano peice before the teacher arrives.

Some people call it cramming, but I call it preparing.

"Mr. White, instead of looking at the clock why not tell us the answer to this equation?" My eyes snapped back onto the whiteboard where the mathematical equation was written. My teacher was looking at me with a small fown on his face whilst waiting for my answer.

Crap.

"The answer is..." then I started to stall as the seconds ticked by, the bell was going to ring anytime soon. "Well you know, according to-" but I was cut off when I was saved by the bell.

In one swift motion I packed up all my stuff and ran out of the classroom. I headed straight to the music room where I saw the mini grand piano standing alone. Being in a performing arts school each day of the week we get two hours of music class in which we try to excel more on the instrument we grew up with.

Once my fingers reached the keys of the piano I automatically played the notes that has been stuck in my head the whole day. The cramming had finally begun. Practicing was the least of my problems at the moment that's why it never crossed my mind to actually do it.

Halfway through the struggle of note reading I was interrupted by a throat clearing. "Mr. White, I see that you haven't practice for this class" I turned to face my teacher who was staring down at me with a small frown on her face.

"Actually-"

"You don't need to explain" my teacher shushes me and I keep my mouth shut. She walks over to me and hands me peices of paper, "Here, study this"

I glance at the paper handed ot me and realize it was a new peice for me to learn, "What's this for?" I ask curiously.

"For the recital of course" she says, "If I see you cram this one, you're out"

I nodded and couldn't help but wish I could run home. I certainly needed to tell someone about the news, I ran through a list of people in my brain and nobody came to mind except one. My parents weren't an option so it was decided.

After class I went straight ahead to the house beside me. I was excited and clearly I didn't even bother to say Hi to anyone in the household. I ran straight up into the room of the person I knew would care, upon entering she looks at me which a huge smile on her face. "I have good news!" I exclaim, totally out of character.

"What's up?" Mads smiles at me with bright eyes.
