Crushed (5) 🌻 Volleyball Lessons
It was 4:00 o'clock in the afternoon, our dismissal time. The tepid weather greeted me as I went outside. The blue and pristine sky was clear for there weren't any clouds floating around. As the lambent sunlight shone on my face, I sat on the bleachers and watched as Heidi, Sheila and Alana practice the sport that dislikes me the most.
Volleyball.
You see, I am not really the sporty type of person or at least, someone who knows how to play sports. Instead, I prefer sitting down and watching my friends play the game. Sometimes, I also rather be reading a book about the sport itself.
Life always finds a way to make me screw up, especially in sports!
Sometimes, my friends really wonder why I don't play these types of games with them. It is not because I hate sports, I guess it's for the reason that I lack the skills and the courage to do such a thing.
As their little rehearsal continued, Sheila was able to accomplish a decent underhand serve. It is a type of serve in volleyball performed with a striking action of the underhand.
I wish I can be as good as her in sports.
Wiping her forehead, she cast a glance and hurled the ball to me. "Join us, will ya?"
I nervously looked at the ball which was now on my hands. Hues of blue, yellow and white were in the ball. It was still in a good shape despite of all the years Sheila had owned it.
Am I even willing to play this sport? I thought to myself.
"Lilian!" Heidi yelled at me."Better get your butt here or else!"
I stared at my friends for a while, unsure of what to do. Basically, I can either rehearse the game with them and disappoint them. . .
. . .or decline their invite and also disappoint them.
Disappointing people is one of the things that I despise. For me, it is like losing a person's trust.
Although, I also detest being such a drag to my friends, so. . .
"I'll join." I announced as I passed the ball back to Sheila.
The three of them looked at each other, flabbergasted at what I had said.
"Finally, after a thousand years." Alana chaffed.
I laughed. "It's only been months!"
"Whatever," she rolled her eyes. "Better start practicing."
With that, the four of us formed a line on one side of the court. My level of skills in volleyball made me too anxious to play, so I stayed at the back.
Heidi's turn was taking longer than expected. She swore to herself to never stop until she was able to perfect all of the types of serves.
Alana, who was behind Heidi, breathed heavily. "Are you still going to take more. . . time?"
"Chill!" Heidi panted. "Just a few more minutes!"
"Well, I'll go to the canteen for a while." Alana sighed. She grabbed her jacket and left the court. "See ya' later."
Sheila and I exchanged looks. It was quite peculiar for Alana to leave the three of us in that manner.
"What the heck just happened?" Sheila whispered, leaning closer to me.
I shrugged. "I honestly don't know. She's just hungry, I guess."
"Maybe." Sheila replied as she fixed her short ponytail.
