Following Parker, I ducked down behind a car to avoid any infected spotting me. I watched Parker poke his head over the side of the car to look at the infected to make sure we had to way out. After several minutes of silence, Parker finally sat back down and looked towards me his expression unreadable.
“Okay, we have two ways of doing this. First, we can go out there and attack all of them since there isn’t many there or we can try to sneak around them by hiding behind cars, but we can’t make any noise.” He stated.
I didn’t know what I wanted to do, what we should do. If we did a full blown assault on them, there could be a chance that one of my people freeze and end up dying but if we snuck around them there could also be the possibility that were not so sneaky and attract not only these infected but other infected as well.
I looked behind me and saw Linda with the trio of friends. They all had a scared expression on their face and I didn’t blame them either. I looked back at Parker and was surprised to see him staring at me so intently.
“Okay…umm…I think it would be best if we just snuck around them because I feel that they’re,” I said pointing to the four behind me. “Just not ready to face these abominations.”
Parker grunted and looked back over the car. I sighed not knowing how I felt. Inside I was scared, scared shitless but on the outside I had to act tough, tough for Linda and my three new friends. I could let them down by cowering in fear every time one of the infected came near me.
“Okay, let’s do it.” I heard Parker say in a whisper. I just nodded my head and hoped that he saw and after a while he turned to me, “Well?” He said irritation clearly in his voice. “Y-yeah” I said back, embarrassed that I actually managed to stutter a bit.
“Okay, I’ll go first and make sure the coast is clear. You stay here and protect them.” I nodded once again and I watched as Parker looked over the car again and then slowly made his way out of the shelter of the car and into the open where the infected can get him.
I was anxious, I wanted him to get to safety, I wanted him to find the next right passage for our safety. I saw him slowly creep towards another car near the car we were hiding behind. He walked slowly to make sure he didn’t attract the attention of any infected nearby. He stopped short notice and I thought an infected spotted him and I watched to see what his next move would be. Parker took out a knife slowly and then put it in his mouth, the handle part.
He once again slowly made his way towards the car and I let out a loud breath I didn’t know I was holding.
The result was an infected locking eye with Parker’s moving body and I wanted to shout to him to be careful but that would attract more attention. I watched in emotional pain as the infected started his way towards Parker and Parker oblivious to the infected kept moving towards the car.
I watched as the infected came near to Parker and he still didn’t notice it. Parker moved slowly while the infected did to, but was gradually gaining speed trying to catch its prey.
I wanted to warn Parker, I really did but I couldn’t. I wouldn’t only give away our position to the infected, but I would attract more infected and then we would be in serious trouble.
I had to think of something and I had to think of it fast. I couldn’t shout so I did the next big thing. I looked around four something I could throw and when I couldn’t find anything I started to panic, that is until I found a pebble near the tire of the car and that was only by luck because there was a shard of glass next to it that reflected off the sun and shined brightly.
