I watched as Linda was screaming with the infected on her. I was too stunned to react, I just stood there. She was fighting him, the infected, and he was trying to bite her. One moment he was on top of her, trying to bite her and the next he had a blade through his head which made his body go limp. Linda quickly took that as an advantage and shoved the infected off of her, wiping her clothes clean on of the blood that got on her.

I saw that there was a man standing in front of the dead infected. He had a camouflage suit that looked like he just got out of a war, he had two streak marks on both his cheeks, and he had short, brown military hair.

He went from looking at the infected to Linda, “Are you bitten?” He asked her with a stern voice. Without hesitation he took out a knife from his pocket and grabbed Linda in a headlock, pushing the knife closer to her neck. He said something to her, but it was only a whisper that I couldn’t hear it.

“Hey, let go of her!” I said as I rushed towards Linda to free her from the man’s grasp. He must’ve not noticed me because when I said something, his eyes opened really wide. “I cannot do that. If she has been bitten, she will get infected.”

I glared at the man, trying to put up the toughest face I had. I walked towards Linda and looked at her arms. She didn’t have any bite marks anywhere. “She doesn’t have any bite marks,” I sad matter of factly. “Now let go of her!”

The man stared at me for a minute before releasing her, he finally let go of her and she ran towards me, hugging me tightly and sobbing a little. “It’s okay Linda, I’m sorry I didn’t do anything…” I said guilty. She said something but I couldn’t quite hear her because what she said was muffled.

The must have went inside the building because when I searched for him, he wasn’t there but the door was open to where someone signaled for us. “C’mon,” I told Linda as I guided her towards the open door. She went inside before I did and I made sure to lock the door behind me, being prepared doesn’t harm anyone.

The building we were in looked like it was an office because there were desks and broken computers everywhere. The floor was messy with papers and other office supplies. I saw the man that held a knife to Linda in a corner with 3 more people. Linda went to a corner where an office chair was and she cried to herself quietly.

I walked towards to the man, wanting to thank him for killing the infected that was on Linda. As I got closer to him, I saw him handing a can to one of the 3 people who were in the corner with him. The nearer I got, I noticed that the 3 people huddled were 2 women who looked about 21 and a man who looked like he was 25. They were all red probably from crying and from the way they were dressed, I suspect that they were going to a party.

I was now behind the man, who was whispering something to all of them and each of them nodded their head, agreeing to whatever he said. He turn around and noticed me behind me, he glared at me before walking past me, bumping my shoulder in the process. I know me and him didn’t get to a good start, but that doesn’t mean he can just hold a grudge against me.

“Hey,” I yelled after I speed walked towards him. “I just wanted to say thank you for killing that infected,” I paused in my sentence, trying to get the images out of my head of what could have happened. “I don’t know why, but…I just freaked out.” I admitted, hoping he would understand.

He said nothing at first and I thought that maybe he thought I was a coward, but I heard him sigh, “It’s okay…everyone get scared.” He said now looking at me directly in the eye. I felt uncomfortable with the stare he was giving me. I looked down, not knowing what to do now. “My names Austin by the way, Austin Kerd. And that’s Linda, she’s my neighbor.”
