OWENS POV
I came home with the Chinese food Olivia begged me for. My mom was sitting in the living room with the girls and they were watching tv.
"Hey guys," I smiled.
"Daddy!" Sophia said and ran over to me. I smiled and picked her up.
"Hi sweetie how was school?" I asked.
"It was good!" She said, "I got to play on the swings today at recess!"
"That's cool," I said, "Olivia how was your day?"
"It was good," she said.
"Did you have any tests?" I asked.
"Yeah a history test," she said.
"And how was it?" I asked.
"Easy," She said.
"That's my girl," I smiled and kissed her head. I turned to my mom.
"Thanks for watching them," I said.
"Of course Owen you know they're always so good," she said.
"You can stay for dinner if you want," I said.
"I'll take you up on that," she chuckled, "means I don't have to cook." I chuckled and thought of Amelia today. I'm really starting to like her, and she's the first person I've really liked since Anna. I took the food out of the cartons and got plates for everyone.
"So dad how was work?" Olivia asked.
"It was good," I said.
"Did you have a lot of surgeries?" My mom asked.
"No today was slow," I said, "which is actually a good thing less people injured."
"Yeah," my mom said. My phone buzzed and it was all the way on the opposite counter by Olivia.
"Liv can you see who it is?" I asked. She picked up my phone and looked at the message.
"It's Amelia," she said, "whose Amelia?"
"Coworker," I said, "she's Uncle Derek's sister, what'd she say?"
"She said 'do you have the carter jacobs file?'" Olivia said.
"Tell her yeah," I said.
"Okay," she said. My phone buzzed again almost instantly and Olivia looked over.
"She asked if you can send her a picture of it," she said.
"Tell her she can have it if she wants," I said.
"That's a lot of work you do it," she said and gave me the phone. I chuckled and took the phone from me.
"You can have it if you want," I sent.
"Can I come pick it up?" She asked.
"Yeah sure," I sent.
"Now?" She sent.
"Yeah," I sent.
"Okay on my way," she sent. I shut my phone off and put it on the charger. A few moments later the doorbell rang and I knew it was Amelia.
"I'll be right back," I said.
"Okay," My mom said. I got up and walked to the door. I opened the door and she was so pretty. She smiled.
"Hey," She said.
"Hey," I said. I invited her inside and I had to get the file from the kitchen.
"Hi," she said when she saw the girls and my mom.
"Hi," Sophia smiled. I saw Amelia smile back and I walked over to my bag and handed her the file.
"Thanks so much," she said.
"No problem," I said.
"You want it back tomorrow morning?" She asked.
"Whenever," I said.
"Okay cool," She said. I walked her back to the door and she was just so pretty.
"Goodnight," She said before walking out.
"Goodnight," I smiled. I watched her walk to her car and then locked the door. I walked back into the kitchen and Sophia smiled.
"Daddy your friend is really pretty," she said.
"Yeah," Olivia said.
"Uh Yeah," I chuckled. My mom looked over at me and smiled. We finished dinner and Olivia went up to her room to finish her homework and Sophia went upstairs to shower. My mom was helping me clean up.
"So do you like her?" My mom asked.
"Uh Yeah," I said.
"She's pretty," My mom said.
"Yeah," I smiled, "she is."
"You should put yourself back out there," My mom said.
"Yeah I know," I said, "but I don't know."
"Do you think she likes you?" She asked.
"I don't know," I said, "I mean we're good friends but."
"All I'm gonna say is no girl goes out of her way to come to a boys house if she doesn't like them," she chuckled. I chuckled and finished putting the dishes away, and thought, maybe my mom was right.
AMELIAS POV
Owen was the cutest boy ever. We've been friends for a while because of Derek, and yeah we're super close, but I'm crushing on him so hard. He's just so cute I can't. I kinda needed a case file and I knew Derek had a copy but I knew Owen did too, and that gave me an excuse to go see him anyway. Owens the best, he's just so easy to talk to and we've always been there for each other. His wife died a few years back, from brain cancer, and I know he's probably scared or not ready to put himself back out there, I mean I don't blame him but, I really do like him.
