Chapter 20

"What happened to her?"Mikey asked once Donny and Tora had done what they could to help Firewing.

"What every it was, it had to be a demon attack." Tora said. "Three claw marks means a demon." He washed away the blood from his hands and Donny did the same. "I feel bad for not being able to anything else for her." Tora said to Donny. He watched as the turtle shook his headin agreement.

The group had been ushered out of theroom and back to theliving areawhere they had been.Leo continued to sit next to Fire, holding her hand while she slept. Splinter sat on the other side of Fire. He was talking to Leo about what the marks ment. Ancient One followed the group into the living area and had them all sit down. 

"You are not right and you are not wrong Tora." Ancient One said as he took a seat. "It was not an attack, but it was demon. Many demons to be exact. What you have witnessed is called the Rochinouik Ritual. It is a punishment."

"A punishment?" Joy asked. "What did Fire do?" 

"She changed your destinies." Came another voice. Kon-Shisho enteredto room and stood by the wall, facing the group. "I came as soon as I recieved your word." He said to Ancient One. "Where is Firewing." His voice seemed to have an edge in it. Like we was worried. 

"Splinter and Leonardo are with her. She is resting."Ancient One replied. 

"The Monks have taken this too far." Kon said, his voice filled with rage. His eyes brighter than ever. 

"What do you mean?" Adam asked.

"Firewing was punished for changing your destinies. All of you were ment to die in the caves, and Firewing knew that." Kon explained. "It wasn't until you all had left when i relized she had told me the truth. She came to me a few hours before sending youout to retreave the Artifact. I did not believe her when she said you all were in danger. She must have known had to save you all. But because she saved you from death, she broke the law of the Monks."

A shiver ran down Tora's spine. "Death?" He asked.

"We were ment to die?" Foragie asked.

"Yes." Kon said. "Firewing only knew about it because a Phoenix can sense fate. Not only for themselves, but for others. The monks have a law not to alter the fate of others. Firewing broke the law. It is punishable by death. But because she is helping to save this world from the evil one, and she is young, they have taken it easy on her. " Afterfinishing what he had to say, Kon-Shisho turned around and headedto Firewing's room."

Leo sat holding Fire's hand for a few minutes after everyone else had left. 

"My son..." Splinter said. "I know you are hurting, but you must know there was nothing you could do."

"I could have stopped her from leaving." Leo blamed himslef for what had happened to Fire. He watched as her facial expressions changed. Pain, to calm, be to pain. She whimpered here and there. "Why arn't her wounds healing?" He asked when he notices more blood seeping through some of the bandages.

"Wounds given back the Monks are theworst. They are one of the only beings who can kill an Assassin." Kon-Shisho said as he appeared in the doorway. He walked over to Fire placed his hands on her temples and closed his eyes. She let out a yell and then went still. "Her wounds will take time to heal. By morning she should be able to walk." Kon kept a hand on her forehead in a strange way. At first Leo thought he was checking her temperature. But he noticed right away the way Kon's thumb moved back and forth across Fire's skin. Kon's eyes were locked on her face in loving manner. 

Leo took in a sharp breath. The way Kon touched her, the way he looked at her. Leo grew jealous but he only watched. Kon's hand went straight to Fire's other hand. He interlocked his fingers with her's. Her breath had grown steady and she no longer cried outin pain. A thought ran through Leo's head. Then he finally relized something. Kon had always taken it easy on Firewing during training, he had always talked with Fire in a way Leo could never understand. After training with the other teachers, Kon always wanted to see Fire. At first Leo thought nothing of it. But now he understood. 

Kon-Shisho was in love with Firewing as well...
