Chapter 10. Sorrow

4 days to competition.

Maddie's POV

I start to feel the tears prick at the corners of my eyes as we walk quickly into the hospital. The doctor explains what happened to Mackenzie to us and I wait jittery with nervousness. I walk over to get a drink from a drinking fountain in the hospital and mom calls me back.

"Maddie you can get one after sweetly." She says.

"Ok mom" I whisper

We walk into Mackenzie's room slowly and I can't help but to cry out in distress when I see my baby sisters limp, crumpled body lying on the sterile, white hospital bed.

"Mackenzie." I whimper

Melissa's POV

As I walk into that hospital room I try to stay strong but I can't fight it, the despair is too strong, so I give in to it. I sit down on the edge of the bed near Mackenzie's feet and say hello to Abby, I tell her thanks that she looked after Mackenzie for two days.

"That's alright" she says tiredly.

Then I move to the opposite side of the bed to the other plastic chair and sit on it I grab Mackenzie's poor limp hand and hold it in mine. I see Maddie from the corner of my eye run out of the room with tears streaming down her face.

Abby silently gets up and heads out of the room.

Abby's POV

When Maddie and Melissa walk in the room I let them cry In sorrow, now is not the time for me to hug them or console them I will do that when they feel better.

Melissa sits down opposite me and grabs Mackenzie's tiny hand.

I get up and walk outside to find Maddie.

Now that Melissa is here I have to go back to the studio to finish teaching the girls the choreography of their dances.

I find Maddie curled up in a ball crying with two nurses fretting around her.

"Are you hurt Miss?" Says one of the nurses.

"She's fine." I say dryly "please give us a moment."

When the nurses leave I talk to Maddie.

"What happened back there honey?" I ask.

"I saw Mackenzie and I freaked out, my throat went all weird and I had to get out of there!" She wails.

"Maddie, stop crying your sister is going to be fine." I say unsure of myself.

"No she's not!" Maddie crys hysterically

I move closer to her and embrace her small body. She crys onto my shirt and I sit there for a while and just let her her cry. I pat her back and tell her it's going to be ok. When she finishes crying for now I take her back into her sisters hospital room. She runs over to Melissa and huddles into her lap as Melissa strokes her hair.

"I have to head back to the studio now." I say "but I'll come back soon to visit."

"Bye Maddie, bye Melissa." I say quietly.

"Bye." They both reply

I get up silently and walk out of the room and as I round the corner to on of the long stretching hallways I see my Junior Elite Competition Team walking down the hallway towards me.
