Chapter 2
"You're such a bitch! All you care about is yourself!" Kirstie was smacked accrossed the face by Jeremy, her boyfriend. He wanted to have sex and she said no. She fell to the floor and felt the blood drip down her lip. "I know you're cheating on me!" He reached down and grabbed her pulling her up and pushing her against the wall. "I'm not I swear." She said calmly. She was all too familiar with being hit and it barely phased her anymore.
"I now you have that guy staying with you! I'm not a fucking idiot!" He screamed and threw her down. "How...how'd you find out?" She asked her voice shaking. She had kept Scott a secret because she knew that if Jeremy found out he would think she was cheating but she wasn't. Scott had been staying there for a week now and they were becoming good friends. "I swear nothing's going on. He needed help and he has no other place to go. We're just friends I swear!" She knew he wouldn't beleive her. He spat at her and walked away. "Get out whore!" He yelled. She obeyed. She slowly walked out and down the stairs into the dark night. She felt the blood drip from her lip but she didn't care. She was done with him. She didn't know why she was even still with him. He hated her and she didn't even really like him that much. Maybe she just didn't want to be all alone...she didn't know but she was done with it. She walked up the steps and unlocked the door to her apartment. She walked in and looked around for Scott. She didn't see him so she walked to the bathroom wanting to cover up her bruises before Scott saw her but to her dismay he walked out of the bathroom right as she walked up to the door. She immediately put her head down hoping he wouldn't notice but it was too late. "Kirstie! What the hell happened?" He said raising her head to face his.
"Nothing. I'm fine." She said confidently. She didn't want to explain things to him and she was silently begging him to let it go. He stood in front of the door and crossed his arms. "Tell me what happened to you!" His voice raised a little.
"Look it's not your problem ok? Just let it go please." She said silently. He got to his knees so he was her height and took her hand. "You helped me now it's my turn. Tell me." He said gently. She sighed and walked away from him going over to the couch. "My boyfriend." Was all she said. He walked over and sat next to her. "He hurt you? How many times? It's been going on for a while hasn't it?" He was pressing her for answers remembering that he had noticed a small cut on her lip the first time they met. Why did he care? She didn't understand him.
"He's been doing it since we started dating three months ago. Why does it matter? It's not like it hasn't happened before to me. I'm used to it. It's fine. I'm done with him anyway." She said like it was no big deal. He hugged her and then let her go afriad of hurting her. "It's not ok. No one has the right to hurt someone else. You don't deserve it." He looked down. He was about to tell her about his dad but he didn't know how to do it. Finally he looked up to her shock filled face. "My dad used to hurt me while my mom watched. And that's why it's NOT ok." He choked on his tears and he couldn't hold them in any longer. Kirstie just stared at him. She didn't know what to do. She wanted to tell him how empty she was inside and how she didn't care about her life at all. She wanted to tell him about her father but something was holding her back. Finally she hugged him and calmed him down. "I-I'm sorry about your dad. I...well mine was...uh...I'm sorry." She couldn't get the words out. She took a deep breath and looked into his blue eyes and suddenly she felt something she'd never felt before. "My...dad hurt me too." She said almost a whisper. His eyebrows raised and his expression changed to pitty. She'd never talked about it and it was bringing back way to many memories for her to comprehend. Scott noticed her horrified eyes and brought his lips to her forehead. "My parents kicked me out because I'm BI. They hate me." He said trying to get her to tell her more. She didn't look surprised by the information he gave her. Kirstie knew he wanted her to open up to him. She got up and walked into the kitchen for a bottle of vodka, grabbed it and sat back down. She opened it and took a swig, then another. If she was going to talk about it she needed to be at least a little drunk. She offered it to him and he took it and drank, handing it back to her. Before long she was tipsey. "He's an asshole. Everrry boy i'vve ever been with isss." She slurred her words a little. Scott took another drink and nodded listening intently. "My dad hattted me and hit me evvrrry chance he got. Toold me i was onnly good for that. I lefft when i was sissteen and nevrrr looked back." She said smiling and taking another drink. Scott looked sad. He wasn't nearly as drunk as she was but deep down he already knew what she'd been through. "It's so weird but for some reason I feel like I know you..." He said surprised at himself for confessing that to her. She looked up at him a little surprised but then her facial expression changed to happiness. He figure she might not remember this in the morning. "I kind oof feeeel the ssame way. We've only known eaaachother for a week yeeet I feeeeel likke it'ss been longerrrrr." She slurred. She layed her head back against the couch. Scott leaned forward and gently touched the cut on her lip. "I'm really sorry about him. If I knew where he lived I'd go kill him for you." He smiled. He couldn't help how he felt about her. "My parents thought the devil was inside me when I told them I was BI." He took a few more drinks and continued. "My dad beat the livning shit out of me and I ended up in the hospital. My mom brought me my stuff later and told me I had to leave." He felt amazing letting this all out. He'd never had a chance to tell anyone and he finally realized he wasn't alone. She grabbed the bottle from him and took a drink giggling the whole time. "Heeeeey Scottty?" She said through giggles. He laughed at how cute she was.
