Shadow

Atop a mountain,
High and mighty,
With below my feet,
A dark mystery.

The moon outshining
The sole street lamp,
And above my head
A tree, dull and damp.

Where am I? What is this?
A place to seek
Or a place to leave.
Neither; maybe it doesn't exist?

A sky of opportunities,
A sky of hope
Above a sea of nightmares,
A sea so loathed.

Resting on the trunk,
I look up to see
The stars staring bright,
A dew drop falling on me.

Awaiting for the cool comfort,
I look down
To the dagger stabbing
Through my soul, to my life at end.

Oh the sea, too evil,
Why would you do this?
The answer I realise,
It's not the sea, but my shadow that kills.

My shadow that I leave behind,
My anger, frustration,
Guilt, and restlessness;
I move on, but it always follows.

Look down, you see
The dark mysterious sea;
I look up, and then feel
The cool drop over my eyes.

Reminded now, it is now time
To look up, look ahead,
Dream for the light, the stars,
Fight against the shadow that lurks.

However, just remember,
Live with both,
For each part of you,
Is equally beautiful.
