"언니 I will go back home and grab you a few things." Eunice leaned over and hugged Lillian before leaving. She came back after just a few seconds. "And don't worry, he will take it well."
Lillian nodded before sighing heavily. She reached for her cellphone on the small tray table beside her. After scrolling to her call favorites list, she clicked on his name and pushed the call button.
Donghae answered after only one ring. "Hey."
"Hey. Sorry I know I'm calling really late."
"I don't care what time you call, you know that. I would pick up the phone for you at 1am or 4am." She could tell he was smiling through the phone.
"I know and I appreciate that." She paused for a moment. "I have some news. I'm in the hospital." As she finished her sentence, her voice lowered slightly.
"무슨 일 있어?" (What's wrong) Concern was immediately heard in Donghae's voice.
"I haven't been doing well this week, but I thought it would pass. Then we dropped Siwon off this morning and after he left, I passed out for a second. Thankfully Eunice was there. She drove me to the emergency room, and I have been here about an hour just getting some tests done." She spoke softly and calmly.
Before Donghae could say anything, he heard a woman say something to Lillian.
"Hello. I'm Dr. Yim. Do you speak Korean? I thought I heard you when I walked up."
"Yes, I do. Sorry I am on the phone with my boyfriend. I can call him back." Lillian answered the doctor in Korean, hoping that if Donghae could hear them he would understand what they were saying.
"Its ok." Dr. Yim followed Lillian's lead and spoke Korean as well. "I just came by to tell you the test results and discuss treatment options."
Lillian heard Donghae say something but couldn't make out what it was. She put the phone closer to her ear. "What?"
"Can I be put on speaker?" He asked concerned.
Dr. Yim nodded. "여보세요 I'm Dr. Yim."
"여보세요 I'm Donghae, Lillian's boyfriend."
"Yes, she mentioned that. So, Lillian, do you know why you passed out?"
"Yeah I got dehydrated. My guess is low potassium levels. I used to pass out frequently from that."
"I see that in your chart. Your condition has been under control the past few years now?"
"For the most part. I have some bad days, but it's mostly fine. But the last few days I have been having some trouble though." Lillian admitted.
The doctor cleared her throat. "It's good you came in. We want to keep you for a few days, get some fluids in you. Also, as you know we ran tests on the growth on your side. I recommend we remove it. It's benign but its is growing, so we need to take care of it now."
Lillian sighed. "I was afraid you were going to say that. Can that surgery be scheduled while I'm in here? And I hate to do this, but I would really want my surgeon to do the procedure. He has done my last five surgeries and he really knows what's going on in my body. He operates out of this hospital."
Dr. Yim flipped through Lillian's chart. "Ah Dr. Yasser Salem. Yes, I am familiar with him. Great surgeon. Let me call him right now and see what we can arrange. I believe he is already scheduled to be here for the next two days, so I will see if we can get that taken care of."
Lillian nodded as the doctor opened the curtain to leave. "Thank you!" Lillian called after her then turned her full attention to the person on the other end of the phone. "Hey." She spoke softly. "Did you hear all that?"
