Anne and Diana walked quickly to their lockers, arm in arm. "Diana! What has gotten into you?" Anne Shirley eyes were wide open, studying her best friend's worried face. They had stopped and both girls felt winded. Although she was very concerned with what Diana was so worried about, something behind the brunette caught Anne's eye. A boy with curly brown hair and beautiful hazel eyes, though Anne would never admit it, was walking down the long hallway of the school. But it wasn't just him. His hands were intertwined with a girl who had long black hair and sparkling green eyes. Anne's mouth fell open but she didn't know why she was surprised. The couple, walking down the hall and breaking Anne Shirley's heart, was Gilbert Blythe and Meredith Walker.
