CHAPTER ONE!
[ DECEMBER BLUES. ]

MARY BUTTONED UP HIS BLACK
FLANNEL —— the sound of feet scraping the hard, wet concrete filled the silence outside. thunder was heard from miles away. today the small town of magnolia was silent. friends and family gathered around the small grave dug for a once soft, lively, and enthusiastic fifteen year old girl.

luna neoma miyazono, was diagnosed with friedreich's ataxia when she was 5. even with having a life threatening disuse luna was an energetic young girl. her favorite activity's consisted of, painting, dancing, and playing tag with her older brother noah.

when she turned 8 she found her once favorite activity's weren't so easy anymore. painting, just turned into messy scribbles by the time she was 13. while dancing and playing tag only caused her to fall over or tumble.

she was constantly at the hospital for check ups. soon those check ups turned into overnight stays. she couldn't move her arms or legs the same way she used too, and most of her life was sitting inside a hospital room. she hated not being able to play at school on the playground or go in the art room after school hours and paint away.

instead the girl sat in her hospital bed looking out the window. she adored the sky, especially at night and sometimes she'd have conversations with it. not just the sky but with the moon.

one night while luna was having her usual conversation, she heard whispering outside her hospital room.

"how much time does she have left?" she heard a familiar voice whimper... mom.

"it's hard to say, surgery would be optional ma'am but there's not much of a chance with her heart condition of her making it out alive. we deeply apologize."

luna's eyes widened with fear. death? she could die?

she always knew it would come someday and that her disuse would shorten her life, but by how much she hadn't known then. now she knew. it was now that she had to start living her best life. not shut up in a hospital room, having nurses monitoring her every hour.

so she ran.

for the first time in a while luna ran.

she burst out of the door and out to the front lawn where the moon was shining brighter than ever. luna smiled. "i'm free."

the next couple of weeks luna pleaded with her parents, she wanted to go back to school, and so she did. that next monday she gathered up her books and set off to class.
