*Ding, Ding, Ding*

I could hear my doorbell going off, but I wasn't expecting any company. I finally had a day to myself after picking up so much over time for two weeks, nothing in me wanted to be bothered.

Sliding my slippers on, I tip-toed to the door to look out the peep-hole. It was my best friend Trina. Part of me wanted to play it off like I didn't hear the door so she would leave, but Trina was smarter than that.

She rung the doorbell again.

"Rae, I know yo' ass hears this door!" She was so loud and ratchet.

I took a deep sigh and opened the door.

"Were you at least gonna' call me before you just popped up?" I asked as she breezed right past me.

She giggled.

"Now why would I do that? Did you forget I have a key? I would have waited here til' you got here anyway." Trina smirked and made her way to the couch.

"Bitchhhhh! I ain't see yo' ass in almost a month. You replaced me? I smack bitches you know." I rolled my eyes.

"Trina, bye. You know we've been firing people left and right. I've been picking up mad over time. This is the first time I've had a day to myself..."

I was drained, mentally and emotionally. Physically was slowly creeping it's way to the list. Trina just shook her head.

"You've always been a hard worker Rae. It'll pay off." She said, lighting her cigarette.

"Uhn-uhn! You know I do not play that smoking shit in the house, go on the balcony." Trina rolled her eyes.

I didn't smoke often, but I did smoke. However, this was a smoke free house! I didn't need that type of smell lingering through here. Five minutes later, Trina made her way back inside.

"I saw Simon the other day." She said with a smirk on her face.

"Oh really?" I tried to act un-interested as I rinsed out the few dishes in my sink.

"Don't try to act like you don't care hoe. You still fuckin' him ain't you?" Trina was another straight to the point kind of person.

"Trina..."

"Trina nothing. Yes or no?" She asked again.

"Yes, yes Trina. I am still fucking Simon. Happy now?" She got so much satisfaction out of me telling her that.

"You just need to go on and make that yo' man Rae. What are you waiting for?"

It was complicated between Simon and I, but we both knew what was up.

"We're better as friends Trina." I started drying the dishes.

"Friends? FRIENDS!?? Rae, y'all fuck like lovers. You talm'bout some FRIENDS!? Girl bye. I don't pop my pussy like that for my friends!" She came into the kitchen with me.

"It's complicated Trina."

"No, it's obvious Raelyn. What are you afraid of?" I got quiet for a moment.

What was I really afraid of? Simon was a good dude. Tall, funny, handsome, smart, but... But we were just better as friends. I didn't wanna' lose such a good friendship if things went left just because of our feelings.

I sighed.

"I'm just not ready for commitment right now. I'm twenty-five, no kids, I got a good job. Right now is the time to focus on me. I just don't feel that I'm in a space to devote all my time to someone..." I headed back into the living room, and she followed.
