Chapter 16

Heather's POV

Last night actually wasn't as bad as I made it sound.

I talked to all the cast members and Alex embarrassed himself by spilling bbq sauce all over his dress shirt. I laughed so hard I almost peed myself.

I exchanged numbers with everyone including the Duffer brothers. That way if I ever needed anything I could contact them. I also got added to a bunch of group chats.

Finn also told me that he's met a girl at the park and just by looking at her he could tell he was in love. I've never really believed in love at first sight.

It was early the next mourning when a ding on my phone woke me up.

Uggggg it's like 6am and I need more sleep. I groggily rolled out of bed and slowly made my way towards my desk.

I reached for my phone am grasped it as tightly as I could having a cast on. It was from Katie.

Kittenqueeeeen-Hey.

HouseofHeathers-Hi

Kittenqueeeeen-I was wondering if you wanted to hangout today? I have something important to tell you

HouseofHeathers- ya sure where tho?

Kittenqueeeeen- the park?

HouseofHeathers-sure I'll be there in 10

I got up and went to pick out my outfit for the day. A pair of black leggings with a grey spaghetti strap and a colourful wrap type long sleeve shirt thing. It's hard to describe.

I brushed my teeth and went to put on my jacket.

Shit I almost forgot to leave a note for my parents. I grab a pen and quickly scribble a note explaining where I am.

I get my boots and and head out the door. I make sure to go carefully so I don't slip.

When I get to the park I can tell that no one has used it since the last snowfall. There are no divots in the ice are footprints on the snow. The snow is sparkling in the sun and it gives the ice a new kind of depth.

I look around and notice that Katie isn't here but a tall boy is standing near the bench.

I'm very shy and decide not to go up to him or even near him for that matter, but he looks at me and I see his face.

"Heather?" He mouths, squinting to get a better look since the sun is in his eyes.

"Ya, Finn?" I respond as I slowly start to walk towards him. I'm almost at the bench where he is.

I stepped onto a patch of ice and started to fall but Finn quickly saved the day by catching me before I fell.

Thank god he did or I could have further injured myself. 

"Thanks," I muttered as I stand back up. I look around and spot someone coming from behind Finn.

I already know it's her. No one else has a jacket that colour. It's bright pink and it actually kind of sparkling in the sun. She waves and starts to pick up her pace.

I stay where I am in fear of falling but a smile works it's way on to my face. I notice out of the corner of my eye that Finn is watching her. He actually has a kind of sparkle in his eyes and I can't help wondering if this is the surprise she was talking about. Does Katie know Finn?

Then it hits me.

At dinner he was talking about a girl he met in the park. What if he was talking about her?

"Heather!" She exclaims as  she goes in for a hug.

"Katie, how are you?" I replied.

She told me she was good and that she was glad her brother was home and safe. I apologized for telling her that he was stuck on the mountain when he wasn't and we got over it. I almost forgot Finn was there until he spoke up.

"Ahm," he cleared his throat and toke a small step towards us.

"Oh Finn, I almost forgot you were here! Sorry!" Katie exclaimed as she backed up to let him in our little circle like shape.

"So umm, how do y'all know each other?" I asked, giving Katie the 'you better fucking spill the tea' look.

"Oh well she was all alone on the top of the play structure and I wanted to make sure she okay so I went up and introduced myself and we had a conversation, exchanged number and stuff," Finn explained, fiddling like he was nervous.

"Yep," she smiled and he smiled back. I noticed her cheeks go red. Does my best friend have a crush on Mr. Wolfhard? 

She totally does. Now I get the feeling that I'm kinda the third wheel. I mean if I had know that he'd be her I probably wouldn't have come. I could've hung out with her some other time. 

"Sooo," I muttered trying to think of something to say to stop it from being super awkward.

"Uhh, how's life?" I ask, using the classic saying for what you do when you have nothing to talk about.

"At the moment great," Finn whispers, then looks at Katie. She smiles and I can't take it anymore.

"This has been significantly awkward and I'm going to leave, nice seeing you," I said slowly walking away.

"No don't leave!" Katie begs.

"But I," i insist.

"Heather, we just got here,"

"Ya But I feel like the third wheel, y'all are her giving each other goo-goo eyes and I'm just standing here super weirdly." I complain, stomping me feet.

Finn goes bright red and I see the tips of Katie's ears turn pink.

"I-I-," she mumbles struggling for the right words. I turn on my heel and as I walk I yell, "that's what I thought."

I look behind me and Katie flips me off. I laugh and continue walking. I'll text her later.

On my way home I smile to myself as I promise that I'm going to get together no matter what it takes. I already have a ship name.
