Heather's POV

I stood there gaping at what I was seeing.

"Aren't you gonna give me a hug?" He asked putting down my sketchbook and standing up.

My face broke into a broad smile as I went to give him a hug. His arms were warm and comforting.

God was I glad to see him. Wait...

Shit.

I told Katie that her brother was still stuck in the mountains with Alex but if Alex was home did that mean Ryan was home?

I pulled away from Alex, confused.

"What? Do I smell?" He asked a smile playing on his lips.

"No, it's just I thought you were still on the mountain in Jay Peak,"

"I got home 20 minutes ago,"

"Well duh, but I just told Katie that you and Ryan were stuck at Jay Peak,"

"Well she should find out that he isn't when he gets home," he said, "but anyways are you okay? I saw you fall on the stairs,"

"Oh umm ya," I muttered turning bright red cause I'd hoped no one had seen that.

"Alex did you win?" I asked.

"Ya we did actually, not by much though," he replied sitting back down on my bed.

He grabbed my sketchbook and opened it to my most recent sketch.

"What happened?" He laughed pointing at my drawing of what was suppose to be a cat.

"Well since I broke my right hand I drew that picture with my left hand, as you can tell it didn't turn out so well," I frowned, looking down at my cast.

"Ya about that," he hesitated, "what happened?"

"Well...." I started then told him almost everything. I tried not to get choked up when I was talking about Lauren but I couldn't help it. The part I left out was my whole conversation with Noah cause I knew he would get all protective over me.

When I was finished we sat in silence for a few minutes before Alex muttered at quiet wow.

"I'm sorry I wasn't there Heather, I should have been," He muttered, running a hand through his hair.

"Alex, it's oka-" I started but he cut me off.

"No it's not okay Heather! I've been trying to balance hockey and family but I'm terrible at it. I just... I just want to be a better brother," he sighed looking defeated.

"Alex, your a great brother and I wouldn't trade you in for the world, I'll admit lately you've been a bit distant but that doesn't change anything, plus your here now right," I said hoping it would make him feel a little bit better.

"I guess so, but I promise I will spend more time with you from now on okay?" He said, offering a smile.

"Okay," I said, returning it.

I hope this meant he was going to be around the house more. Before he was always either at a friend's house or at the hockey arena.

"I should go see mom and dad now," he said, standing up.

"You haven't seen mom and dad yet?" I gasped, unable to contain my shock, "mom was an emotional wreck yesterday cause she was so worried about you,"

"Oh shit, I should really go then," he laughed.

"Ya no kidding,"

He walked out the door and left me standing there in awe. Then I remembered. I forgot to tell him about getting the part in Stranger Things.

"Alex wait!"I yelled going as fast as I could to stop him from going into our parent's room.

"What?" He asked stoping and turning around right before he steeped into their room.

"I got the part!" I squealed my smile widening.

He stood there the look of oblivion glued to his face. My smile faded as I knew that he had absolutely no idea what I was talking about.

"Never mind," I mumbled my voice raw with emotion.

Wearing a frown I turned around and limped back to room. How could he not remember? I'd talked about the audition nonstop for months.

The more I thought about it the sadder I got.

"Heather, wait,"

But I didn't wait, I just kept on going until I collapsed on my bed.

He burst through my door and sat down on my bed, right beside where I was laying.

"Heather what? You seemed really excited to tell me," he pressed on.

"What's the point Alex? You have no idea what I'm talking about,"

"Tell me," he whined.

"Why?"

"Cause I want to know,"

"Well maybe if you were a better brother you would know what I'm talking about!" I hissed, finally snapping. I really didn't want to go all crazy on Alex but he was making me mad.

When I saw the hurt in his eyes all the anger vanished and what I said sunk in. I just confirmed exactly what he hadn't wanted.

"Alex, I didn't mean it," I whispered.

"No Heather. You did mean it, I could see it in your eyes, and I'm sorry," he muttered looking down with shame.

We stayed there in an awkward silence until it was unbearable.

"I got the part in Stranger Things," I blurted out cause I couldn't hold it in any longer.

"I'm sorry what?" He asked, giving me the impression that he was just as shocked as I was that I got the part.

"Ya, I got it," I said suppressing my smile.

I watched as his face changed from shock to complexâtes and utter happiness.

"Heather! That's amazing!" He cheered pulling me into a bear hug cause he was twice my size.

"I'm so proud of you!" He said pulling out of the hug to mess up my hair.

"Thanks," I laughed.

"Welcome," he muttered, standing up.

"Go," I said pointing towards our parent's room.

He left the room but the happy atmosphere was still lingering in my room so I decided to try sketching again.

I went to my desk and grabbed my favourite purple pen. I sat down at my desk and began to mindlessly draw. Once I thought I was done I looked down at my final product and laughed.

It looked horrible. Oh well.

Alex was home and I was in mood. The day finally seemed to be looking up.
