It took us a while to get out of the packed driveway. I wouldn't blame Shandra's parent's for being pissed off, especially because they had to park all the way down the street from their house from what seemed like an important trip. They were probably tired and were looking forward to come home and relax. After, we got out of the driveway we headed to my house. Brandon was once again unusually quiet, and I could tell he had something on his mind. I wondered what'd he do at the party while I was gone. It seemed like he didn't have such a great time like he expected to.
Me: So, how was the party?
Brandon: It was okay... what's up with you and Von?
Me : Nothing's up. We just took a walk and talked a little.
He stayed quiet for a moment. I studied his face, and it seemed as if he was trying to gather the right words to say before he spoke.
Brandon: Just be careful. Von's cool people, but something seems kind of off about him.
Me: What gives you that impression?
Brandon: I mean, he just sort've came out of nowhere, with no family, and when I ask him about it, he gets this worried look on his face.
Via: He said that him and his parents didn't see eye to eye.
He slowed the car as he approached a red light, and turned to face me.
Brandon: See that's what I'm saying. How do you just not "see eye to eye" with your family, and move to a whole different state with no help or support?
He was right. I remembered his face when I asked about him being out here alone. Honestly, I felt sorry for him. I couldn't imagine being in a whole new place with no family.
Me: What do you think might've happened with him and his family?
He continued driving and I realized we we're getting close to my house and gathered my unopened bag of hot fries, and my unfinished sprite.
Brandon: I don't know... I'm just looking out for you. You know you're like my little sister.
I looked back up to him and smiled.
He smiled back showing his beautiful white teeth.
Me: Yeah, I know. But just out of curiosity, how did you meet him?
Brandon: Football camp. He was new and not very social. Other guys on the team don't really try to socialize with him much, so one day I told him I liked his kicks and from there we've been pretty cool.
Me: Oh.
Soon, we arrived to my street. I made Brandon drop me off two houses down from mine so that my dog, Mami, wouldn't suspect anything and start barking.
Brandon was annoyed that I wouldn't just let him drop me off at my house, because he felt like it was common courtesy for the male to make sure the female get's in safety.
After going back in forth with him about it, he finally just gave up and told me to text him once I got in.
When I got home I slowly opened the door and everything was pitch black.
I carefully took small steps making sure not to step on any of Mami's chew toys or bumping into anything as I made my way down the hallway to my room.
Slowly, I opened the door and immediately saw my water speaker lighting up the room so beautifully, and then looked to my bed.
Mami was laying on my bed in full alert with her ears up growling softly at me.
Me: Shhh... It's me, Mami.
She immediately came running to me jumping up and down and wagging her tail, so I bent down to pet her and walked towards my bed.
I took off my hoops and laid them on my night stand, took off my shirt and pants, and got in the bed.
I grabbed my phone from my pants pocket and texted Brandon.
Me: I'm in the house and everything's good.
Brandon: 👍🏽
As I laid down on my back, and looked at the unique pattern that my water speaker reflected on the ceiling, I thought about everything thst happened tonight.
"Von... Von... Interesting name. It's simple. I would've expected something like Rodrigo or Mateo."
I thought about the beautiful spot he showed me at the party and that beautiful smile of his.
"Come on, are you already falling for him? I can't be. It's too early. I need to get to know him more, looks aren't everything." I thought to myself.
Then I thought about what Brandon said about him in the car earlier.
I found it interesting and I definitely wanted to know more about him. Not getting his number or snap before I left was dumb of me, I was pretty sure the opportunity wouldn't present itself anymore. Besides a guy like him wouldn't have been interested in me, and if he was then he wouldn't be for long
There had been many guys in my life that try to talk to me over time. Most of them I don't pay any attention to, but the few I did find interest in, never stuck around long. They either wanted to get in my pants or had been trying to talk to many other girls as well.
Usually it went like this: We talk for a while, he get my number, we text, The text gradually starts to get dry, then the next thing I know I'm passing him in the hallway avoiding the awkwardness of us seeing each other.
Plus, I wasn't really interested in having a relationship right now, because relationships equal problems and trust issues. Literally all I see down my timeline is "ten toes down" challenges, he/she broke my heart post, "he aint shit" memes, inspirational quotes for heart broken people, etc.
I personally feel that sometimes social media have a negative influence on society. They always seem paint a picture of what people should think of a person or how a relationship "should" be, and lots of people take it seriously. A good bit of it was true, but the majority of what I've seen was absurd.
I looked at my phone once more to check the time.
10:15pm
“Thank god, I didn't get caught,” I said softly to myself.
It wasn't long before I drifted away to sleep.
