Nick's POV - PresentAlthough last night wasn't what I had originally planned, it seemed to have gone well.
John is smitten with Cara, and that's great but I feel a little left out. I want Cara to like me too and I can't really make that connection with John always jumping in first. You sound like a child.
I'm not angry at him, I would probably be doing the same if I were him. But just a little annoyed. Oaky maybe a lot but still, Cara gravitates to John more than she does me, I get they're closer than her and I and maybe have had like what- a few days extra? A few days extra.
I can hear John talking to Buddy, some about seeing his best friend today. I smile knowing Cara and her daughter will be here. I haven't met her daughter yet but John seems to think she's the cutest thing ever.
I get up and shower, changing into a snug fitting t-shirt and shorts. I head to the kitchen, I have to do double take. I'm not sure I'm looking at my brother.
I stand in the door way, watching John put together a dolls house. I assume for Alexandra.
"What are you doing?" I walk closer to John, hearing him mumble about how he could build something better.
"What does it look like I'm doing?" He grits out, trying to place the tiny screw into the tiny hole.
"Looks like you're trying to build a dolls house, but I'd like to ask why..." I continue to watch as he struggles, before he explodes, I take the screw off him and push him to the side.
"Well, that's what little girls like right?" He steps back and looks over the now finished dollhouse, "I just want to make a good impression for the both of us okay?"
Woah, I stare at him, the stupid look on my face says it all. John, the big, bad grumpy asshole. Stressing over whether a little girl will like us. Of course she'll like us.
"Forget it, I'm gonna go clean up." He grumbles and stomps away.
Such an emotional beast. I finish up the dollhouse and place it on the coffee table. I go grab myself a cup of coffee and make my way outside with Buddy.
"I'll get it!" I yell, John was making his way to the front door, but I beat him to it. I pull open the door and what greeted me was nothing short of perfection.
Cara stands in light blue jeans, a white knitted sweater, her dark locks pull into a pony tail and black boots. She's so beautiful...
I let my thoughts lead me astray, until I hear a throat clear.
"Hey Nick, you guys remembered we were coming right?" She chuckles nervously.
"Of course, sorry come in!" I watch her plump lips quirk up into a smile as she lets Alexandra in first, she strides in but not before turning back and tugging on my pants.
The tiny little human beckons me down to her level, I get on my knees and bend my head to hers.
"I love unicorns!" She whispers. My face morphs into one of pretend shock then I catch a glimpse of Cara staring, and I smile and nod my head back to Alexandra.I watch as she runs over to Buddy giggling and patting him.
"Unicorns?" Cara queries, with a smile on her face.
" 'I love unicorns' I believe is what she said.." I chuckle.
"Yeah, 'unicorn secrets' but they're not really secrets if you tell everyone are they?" She laughs, heading over to Buddy and Alexandra.
John makes his entrance, smiling like an idiot.
"Hey Cara," He leans in for a hug, He steps back and gives her the once over. He's not very discreet.
I watch her blush and smile, "Hey John," she looks over to me, "how are you Nick?" She smirks.
"Good, pretty good." I smirk. We watch on in comfortable silence as Alexandra and Buddy play until we hear a loud gasp.
"E-excuse me?" I hear a little voice, John and I immediately turn to Alexandra.
"Yes?" I whisper, I watch her eyes dart between John and I. Shifting on her feet until she catches Cara.
"C-can I play with that?" She points over to the dollhouse. John knew what he was doing.
"Of course you can! We bought it for you." John smiles warmly at the tiny human.
Such a softy.
"You guys didn't have to buy her anything.." Cara states, a little shocked I think.
Alexandra squeals and walks over to the dollhouse, re-arranging the little wooden families. Buddy hovers over her, until he realises- he can't compete with a doll house, and lays by her side.
"We know, we just thought she'd like it.." I look over to John watching on in fascination, I nudge him before continuing, "Plus, this big softy can't resist a beautifully made doll house."
I smirk as he grunts and rolls his eyes at me. Cara chuckles, her honey coloured eyes twinkling each time they catch the reflection from the window.
"Coffee?" I ask to no one in particular but receive two hums of approval. I start making them, I can hear John whispering to Cara and her giggling back.
As much as I get upset that I'm left out, she's so good for John. He's never, ever like this.
I place the cups of coffee on the counter and go back for the sugar pot and spoons.
"Last night was fun..." Cara says, nervously looking between the two of us. "Maybe we should hang out again sometime?"
Relief released from my body, I wanted to do it again too, I know John did. I was worried maybe we freaked her out when we both started touching her.
John was the first to speak up, "We most definitely should." He almost growls, pulling a giggling Cara onto his lap.
Alexandra looks over and giggles at the sight. I nod and smile at the pair, not knowing really where I stand in this whole thing.
John's phone rings, he grunts and takes it out his pocket. "Give me a minute, it's work." He frowns apologetically at Cara, she smiles and sits back in her seat.
John moves off to the hallway, Cara watches him whilst I watch her. I bite the bullet and saddle up close to her.
She sucks in a deep breath and looks up at me. This is bold of me, considering I don't know whether she'll be comfortable with this or..
I run my hand over hers, she seems comfortable with this. I watch her pull her bottom lip between her teeth.
"Nick.." she whispers shakily. My name falls so sensually from her lips, I can't help the shiver that wracks my body.
"Cara.. I-.." I was cut off as John came back in, looking all smug.
Ass.
