Honey

Tonight won't be as innocent as the last.

"Now Alexandra, Mummy wants to talk to you about something, okay?"

She sits up, attentive and waiting for me to start. Although I'm 99.9% sure she's gonna be okay with this there is still that 1% that she wont, and its making me nervous. 

John and Nick could sense my nerves and nodded at me with a smile, urging me to start. I know if I get stuck they'll step in. 

"We are going to be seeing John and Nick a lot more okay? I like John and Nick very much." I say, I probably could've worded that better but she seems to be taking it well. 

"I like them too!" She jumps in her seat giving a little clap. John and Nick both smile at her antics. She's such a happy kid, I'm glad she never had to witness the things Hunter did. 

"And.. And Buddy is here! He's my best friend!" She shuffles over to buddy giving him a big cuddle.  

"Well that went... well? I mean she seems okay with it right?" Nick says watching Lex and Buddy. 

"Agreed, but I think the real test will be when she finally witnesses us all being affectionate like Cara did with Hunter." John grits out the last bit, as if it burnt his tongue. His arms crossed, giving Nick a pointed stare. 

Nick catches on and agrees. That was easy, a little too easy. I expected her to be okay but also to have a few questions but nope, nothing.

Nick and John both gesture me to go to the kitchen, leaving Lex and Buddy alone I get up and follow. 

I take at seat on the counter, John stands opposite me and Nick comes up in between my legs, rubbing my thighs. 

"So, what do we do now? I mean you're mine now so..." Nick teases, as John clears his throat an throws Nick a glare to the back of his head. 

I laugh, pushing Nick away, "Well I guess, things just go on like normal. I've gotta get Lex into preschool, Mt Ludas have asked me to do a tour on Monday." I say picking at my nails. 

"That's where Ben's kid goes right?" John pipes up, I look up and nod and he nods in understanding. 

"Want us to come?" Nick asks, 

Do I? I think this is something I need to do with just Lex and I, I know why Nick wants to come. Probably thinks Ben will be there and try and hit on me or something. Ridiculous but I just know. 

"No no, it'll be during work hours anyway I'm pretty sure. Oh can I have a few hours free Monday?" I smile cheekily. Nick nods, chuckling as he heads back into the loungeroom.

"Be careful around Ben Cara." John says, whilst grabbing 3 mugs out the cupboard.

I roll my eyes, and rest my chin on my fist. "Why? He's been nothing but nice to me and I can guarantee we'd be seeing more of him, I'm sure Lex will get along great with Archie.." I say certainly. 

He scoffs, placing down the mugs. Arms stretched against the countertop and he stares at me with a serious look. 

"Ben talks about you to everyone Cara... In my personal opinion, I'd say he likes you. We also know Ben. He's divorced, with a young kid and I'd say feels a connection with you because your both parents, but he's known to fall hard for people he shouldn't. His wife is a great example." John says whilst pouring coffee into each mug. 

I think over what John has said, I still don't see it that way. I mean if I want to be friends with Ben because our kids end up being friends then I will. I know John and Nick are possessive but I wont be controlled like that. 

"If I want to be friends with the guy I can be John..." I trail off, watching his fist grow tight around the kettle. 

He places it back down and looks at me, "I'm not saying you can't be Cara, but there will come a time when he builds up the courage to ask you out. He knows you with us- Nick has a big mouth, but it still will not deter him. I'm just saying to be cautious, that's all." He says with finality. Guess that's the end of that then. 

I take my coffee and walk out and sit next to Nick who's watching TV. 

"Did the big, old grumpy man give you what for about Ben? Nick teases, wrapping his arm around me. 

I stifle a laugh and nod with a fake pout. His eyes darken and I immediately regret doing that. 

"He is right you know?" He whispers in my ear, am I going to get bloody goose bumps every time they whisper in my god damn ear?

"I know, and I know what you guys are like, but I wont be controlled. If I want to be friends with someone I will be." I state seriously looking up at Nick. 

He smiles and nods, "Absolutely, but he's just looking out for you. The giant is infatuated with you Cara, he doesn't want you taken away or you deciding we aren't good enough." Nick says whilst watching the TV.

I'm dumbfounded, Them not good enough? Taken away? God Ben cannot be that bad and if anyone isn't good enough for anyone its me that isn't good enough for them.

"That's ridiculous Nick, He's silly. If anyone isn't good enough it's me, and I wont let someone sweep me off my feet don't worry." I say, teasing him with my last few words. 

Nick just scoffs and shakes his head. John walks in and stands watch at the doorway, I shoot him a smile and he sends me a wink. 

"Lex, it's time to go home, Mum's got work tomorrow." I say placing my empty mug on the coffee table. 

"I don't want to go! Can't we stay?" She pouts, big puppy dog eyes have already won over John as soon as she  did it, Nick stands looking between John and Lex. 

"How about a sleepover?" Nick  smirks, Lex claps and hugs Nick's leg. John smiles, whilst I glare at both Nick and John, they know I wont say no to Lex. 

"Okay fine..."

Nick  and John both do their telepathic nods and smirk at each other.
