The world is a horrible place if you are anything different than ordinary.

Athena remembered vividly being in kindergarten watching all the teachers gawk at her, telling her how smart she was. Meanwhile she knew what they were thinking, they thought she was a freak. And how did Athena know that, well the answer is a very open mind and the fact she was not ordinary.

Athena was not ordinary at all.

She was born on October 1st, her mom was on a lunch date with this well-off Italian man when she went into labor, but the most shocking part was that she was a miracle. Athena was a miracle because her mom was not pregnant when the day began.

Athena's mom told her how a man came to see her two days later, apparently he explained to her mom that she was of great importance and that she was worth a lot, to the point where he offered her mom as much as money as she wanted. Her mom being the ruthless bitch she was declined, instead she decided to make Athena her personal money maker. She dragged her along to parties and clubs, branded her as some kind of psychic that could read people's minds.

You can probably say that's how Athena ended up where she is now, at an AA meeting that was required since she had overdosed about a month prior. Guess you can say the party culture really messed with her head a bit, but really it was because by the time she was 14 she was sick of them. Athena was sick of the voices in her head telling her what others thought, it was never ending to the point that sometimes Athena felt like not waking up at all. Yet here she was up and kicking at an AA meeting listening to thoughts of about 10 recovering addicts and there need for quick fix.

The world is a horrible place if you are anything different than ordinary.

The world is a horrible place if you are special.

The world is a horrible place if you are like Athena.

Snapping back into the meeting, Athena watched as one by one different people went up and told their stories in front of a group of nobodies who's thoughts were clouded by the wants of drugs. In fact it was pretty sad, some people got their stuff together they should be allowed to say that, but then again spouting out to a whole group of those recovering seemed kind of weird.

Not long afterwards, the meeting came to an end. The old receptionist lady gave everyone a nod and then presented two chips to two of the attendees. With a sigh Athena plugged in her headphones letting some indie music fill her ears. There was something bout having her headphones that kept her nerves calm. Whether it be the actual music or the fact that everyone's thoughts were now silent that was soothing, both seemed to be okay.

Athena stayed staring ahead as she watched as a young girl name Kelsey from the AA meeting ran up to another boy, they hugged and went off into an alley. Quickly she found herself running after them hoping that maybe just maybe they would share a little of whatever they have. Just as she went to go say something she watched as another boy appeared from the shadows. Athena could tell from here that something was about to go down. It was then she heard his thoughts.

I'm gonna kill them... they don't have my money

Before she could stop myself Athena gasped causing the man to turn her way.

"Run!" Athena yelled to the young couple.

Quickly they scurried off leaving her alone with whoever this man was.

"Who are you?" the man growled as flipped his switchblade to point at Athena. This is the part where things go wrong. Suddenly she could no longer hear the music, but instead the voices each and every one of them telling her something different. Athena was cemented in place as she grabbed her head in pain. She just wanted this to stop meanwhile she had just walked into her deathbed.

Slowly the main started to walk towards her, his face and his knife becoming clearer with every step.

"Stay away from me" Athena whispered as she slowly back away. His thoughts were going a mile a minute which hurt a lot, but she had to stand up she had to do something or she was just gonna end up dead.

With all of her might she tried to tune out the voices, with a shaky breath she took in a deep breathes trying her best to clear her mind.

"I said stay away" this time the tears ran down Athena's face. She watched as the man crept towards her. This time anger flared up through her. Why wouldn't he just listen? Why can't he just leave her alone?

"GET AWAY FROM ME" Athena yelled as loud as she could, channeling all her anger on the threatening man. She watched as it was his turn to standstill, his eyes becoming glassy. Next thing she knew the knife was out of his hand and he was walking in the other direction.

As soon as he turned around the corner Athena fell to the ground and wept. Once again the thoughts invaded her mind this time louder and more chaotic than before. Grabbing a fistful of her hair she cried more and more hoping that somehow, someway, her suffering could end. With one last sob she got up and headed toward the waterfront district.

The waterfront district was where everyone went to hangout. There was plenty of little shopping malls among with the local theater, but what Athena was there for was Harold's. Harold's was the club her mom always would bring her too, once her mom passed it sort of became her new home, a place she came for comfort or in this case...

Drugs.
