Joe's POV:
Tears continued to stream down both of our faces, as I carried Dianne into the hospital. We went into the emergency entrance, I sat her down into one of the chairs. Her head was buried into my chest, and she refused to let go of me. I had to fight out of her grip. Everything between us was silent. Everything in life was somehow going in slow motion yet things were passing the quickest that they had ever moved before. Slipping out of my fingers in a haze of nothingness. I went up to the front desk to establish what had happened with the nurse.
I dried the tears from my eyes and plucked up the courage to speak.
"Hello Sir is everything alright?" The nurse asked me.
My voice was chocked and a single tear rolled down my cheek.
"Um... N - no. My girlfriend's one month pregnant with our first and she woke up roughly an hour ago, a-and she was bleeding quite heavily. She's in a lot of pain r-right now and we think we've lost our baby." I managed to get out slowly. I couldn't hold back my tears for much longer. I could feel them welling up inside of me. I continued to wipe my eyes. I had to stay strong for Dianne.
"I'ts alright sir, I will call a doctor down right now." She pressed a small button on her desk. "Now can I please have your girlfriends name and date of birth."
"Dianne Buswell. 6th of May 1989."
"Thank you very much. I'm assuming you're the father."
"Yes. Joseph Sugg." Just as I said my name two doctors walked into the small hospital waiting room and over towards me and the nurse.
"Mr Sugg can you please follow the doctors with Miss Buswell to the maternity ward." I shook my head, and walked back to Dianne.
She was curled up in a ball on the chair, she was hiding her beautiful face from the world. That was a sight I never wanted to see. But there it was right in front of me. I picked her up and let her sink her head back into my chest. I knew that she was crying heavily as I could feel her cold tears seeping through the sleeve of my hoodie.
I carried her bridal style down the baron, white corridors. Turning corner after corner, following a doctor. My head was a mess. My thoughts had glazed over and all that I could feel was the weight of a once happy, and lively girl in my arms. Yet now she was broken and upset. Her world was broken in so many places before she met me. Since she's been in my arms, she's been broken down more and more. I'd let her down. I knew it.
We eventually came to a single door with the writing 'examination room' on it. The doctor opened it to find a hospital bed. A sonogram machine. And a single chair by the bed side.
I laid Dianne down on the bed. She lifted her head away from my chest as I left her grasp. Now it was her time to be strong. I sat down on the chair and clutched Dianne's hand in my own. Her hand was shaking and it was cold. I felt her grip my hand tightly in return.
I zoned out and didn't listen whilst the doctor spoke with Dianne and asked her a bunch of questions.
I wasn't listening. How could I?
All I could focus on was how I'd let her down. I wasn't there for her. And now she might have lost the only thing that could have brought happiness into her life. I was taken out of my thoughts when the doctor spoke to me.
"Mr Sugg will you come outside with me for a moment." I nodded quickly before leaving Dianne's cold side and leaving the room.
The doctor spoke again.
"Mr Sugg I'm terribly sorry to say that the baby has passed away. I'll give you some time to tell Miss Buswell. You can take however long you need before taking her home.
I'm sorry but nothing can be done..."
And that was all I felt as he walked away.
Nothing.
I'd let her down.
A single tear rolled off of my cheek and splashed onto the hard blue floor of the empty hospital wing.
Leaving me cold. Leaving me sad.
Leaving me.
