Narrator's POV:

Dianne put the phone down, and looked over to Joe. Her face was in complete shock and several tears threatened to come rolling down her cheeks.

"Why?" This was the only response she could manage to give Joe. There was an awkward silence between them whilst Joe found his feet and stood up off of the bed, and began pacing round his room. Dianne's eyes never left Joe's face. Everything in both of their worlds seemed to collapse within the space of 3 minutes. Joe suddenly stopped pacing, and looked up to a tearful Dianne.

"Dianne I love you so god damn much, and that's why we have to break up. I can't be the one who causes you more pain. I refuse to be the reason that threatening messages get sent to you, and the reason that crazy ex-boyfriends come breaking into our home to try and hurt you. I have said to you hundreds of times that I would let someone shoot me thousands of times before I let them get to you. But what happens that thousand and first time. I can't live with the thought of knowing that I've let you down. I so nearly jumped before I met you, and if I was the reason that something happened to you, then I would 100% make the jump. You are the only reason I can wake up in the morning, but I refuse to be the reason that I don't wake up with you."

Dianne was in tears by this point. Joe's face was flushed and he too was on the verge of breaking down. He walked over to Dianne and crouched down in front of her. He clasped both of her hands in his and looked her in her beautiful hazel eyes.

"Dianne I love you. And it seems like the only way that I can keep you safe is to leave you alone. You don't need me. You have a brilliant job and so many amazing friends. You have a life of your own and a future. You can find someone else and start a family. You have a life without me. Please don't let it pass you by."

Joe was now in tears, but he didn't let them take over. He stayed strong and said what he had to say. He slowly moved his hand up to Dianne's face and wiped her tears away with his thumb.

"What about you then Joe?" Dianne questioned him

"I don't have a life without you Di. But tomorrow I will die a happy man knowing that you are safe." Dianne pulled Joe in for a hug. They stayed clutched onto each other for about 5 minutes before Dianne pulled away and stood up, leaving Joe sat back on the bed.

"Joe I understand what you mean by not wanting to let me down.."

"Dianne jus..."

"No Joe let me speak. Do you remember when you told me that I was your suicide saviour, well I may have saved you from suicide, but you brought me back to life. My soul was damaged so much whilst I was with Anthony, that I thought it was beyond repair. Until I met you. You showed me that life wasn't over, and I could never repay you enough for that. You have taken bullet after bullet for me and I could never be more grateful. You are the only person in the world who has ever stood by me through my issues. You never ignored them and left me to deal with them, you took them head on just so that I could have a simpler life, and I love you sooo much for that.

At no point in my life, have I ever truly felt at home, but when I look into your eyes, they remind me of the beaches and oceans back in Australia. And that right there is where I fell like i'm home. Not in Australia, but with you. So you can make that jump tomorrow, feeling happy because you know that I am safe. But I will be jumping right beside you happily knowing that I can spend everyday with you in eternity, because that's where I want to be Joe. At home with you in my arms."

They were both in continuous streams of tears. Joe stood up, and placed his arms around Dianne's back. She placed her arms round his neck until their foreheads touched, and their bodies were in complete contact with one another. They looked deeply into each others eyes in silence for a few minutes. Until eventually Joe broke it.

"We'll get through this together then."

"Together." Dianne replied.
