  High up in the skies, one lone demon flew in hopes that he will reach the bottom steps of a stairway in time before it vanishes for the day. Once he reached it, he didn’t stop nor take a breather and instead flew quicker than ever to the silhouette above where a beaming golden light glows.

  When Albert got there, he braced himself on his knees and panted slightly.

  “It has only been what a few hundred years-.” Without looking up, Albert knew who the guy talking, which he interrupted despite breathing hard.

  “Yeah, I know.”

  “-and you’re back up here again. What’s the matter this time Alastor?” The guy finished as if he hasn’t been interrupted in the first place. So Albert stood straight and evened his breathing to face Saint Peter, the only guard at the gates of Heaven, the Paradise, and also the keeper of the “keys to the kingdom”.

  St. Peter looked back at him squarely.

  Alright, the guy is chill but when someone tries to force themselves and enter the gates without his knowledge and the approval from the Higher ups then he will see to it that they’ll be removed and thrown down to the Underworld, Hell, himself. One time Albert got to witness it, it was when he made a pact with the Archangels and he would never admit out loud that it was an impressive sight.

  “Obviously, I need to talk to them.”

  “Ah, yes. Because you asked so nicely, I’d send an escort angel to accompany you on the way.” Peter said then looked back to his thick log book, obviously done with Albert.

  Albert sighed and paced around Peter’s desk as he waits impatiently for the guide to arrive at the gates and let him in.

  “For the last time, your profile cannot be updated any further.”

  “But, I want to adopt them. Can you please make an exception this time?”

  “I’ll see what I can do.”

  Albert stepped inside the large hall where most of the concerns from the Angels are being answered by other Angels who are currently at the workstation. He can see one angel working behind a desk and also giving a stink eye to the army of cats and dogs surrounding another angel.

  Then Albert’s escort angel proceeds to walk towards the front of the crowd so he made a move to follow. Not before making it halfway there, the surrounding angels turned to look at him as one. Albert couldn’t help but remember that he totally sticks out like a sore thumb among the winged creatures.

  Suddenly, they parted for him and his escort like the Red Sea parting for Moses in Egypt.

  Not one to question another species’ thinking and decision-making, Albert hastened his pace so as to not be left behind by his always moving and silent escort angel. Finally, they have arrived to the front and innermost part of the hall where the Archangels are.

~~~
  The discussion that occurred previously between the Archangels and Albert weigh heavily in the room. All the bustling and hustling in the main hall halted to listen. The Archangels themselves were quiet and thoughtful.
  “You do know that this soul you are seeking and beseeching for is outside of the Archangels’ jurisdiction?” One of the Archangels, Uriel, asked.
  “I’ve searched and this is the best shot.”
  “Are you sure of your decisions?” Raphael who had wanted to see if the demon could become something more, questioned
  “Yes.”
  “Are you aware of its consequences?” Once again, Raphael asks.
  “I am.”
  Total silence hung over everyone as they wait for the Archangels’ decree. Gabriel, who was quiet throughout the whole exchange, stood and went towards Albert. They looked at him from head to toe. The horns, wings and dark skin screams that of a demon but the longer Gabriel stares at Albert’s eyes, the more they were reminded of a human, forlorn and desperate.
  This demon who once wished to become human is now before them and would move heaven and earth for a man who has not even a complete soul but have already touched the heart of the said demon.
  “Alastor. With the Angels as our witnesses, I hereby proclaim that this man, Michael Adams whom you beseeched for, and with all our power and authority will be reincarnated. But thou must know that thy wish will turn to naught.”
