For a while that day Frank and I sat outside the school, sharing cigarettes and talking. I sort of completely forgot about what my mom had said, but I didnt really care, frankly.
"You wanna go in the forest again? I got better, not flat, beer."
I shrugged slightly.
"I dont know. My moms gonna make me cook dinner if I skip anymore."
I heard him laugh and I raised an eyebrow.
"Cooking sucks. Oh my god."
"Its not that bad."
He whined.
"Ugh. Fine. Promise the beer's not shit and ill go."
"Pinky swear."
He held out his finger, a smirk playing at his lips (that I couldnt seem to stop thinking about).
I rolled my eyes and twisted my pinky finger with his.
"You're a dead man if that beer's flat."
"Don't worry."
Again, he grabbed my hand and lead me in the same direction as yesterday. This time I didn't mind though. I was pretty happy, and I havent been happy in a while.
We got to the same rickety cabin and he practically ripped the door off again.
"Ladies first."
He smirked.
"Ha. Ha."
I mocked, pushing past him and looking around. I didnt notice yesterday all the shit that was in here. There were random tools everywhere. I have no clue how he found this place, or why he liked to keep his drinks in here, but asking would be rude, so I'd just accept it for what it was.
He'd handed me a can and I took it warily.
"Its not that cold."
"Hey. I never said anything about the temperature. "
I rolled my eyes and walked out behind him, sitting in the same spot we did yesterday.
I snapped open the can and took a sip. It still sucked and was pretty gross. But at least he tried.
"So...am I a dead man?"
"Yes. This sucks."
Although i couldnt stand the drink and my mouth burned, I shot him a smile, assuring him.
"Damn. Well. How are you gonna do it?"
I looked up at him, confused.
"Do what?"
"Kill me."
He said, as if it were obvious. But whatever, I'll play along.
"Hm. I dont know. Probably strangle you...you know. No murder weapon."
He nodded slowly.
"Well I mean, where would you put my body?"
I shrugged.
"I dont know. A river. In that cabin. Who knows."
"You better get on that then. Im sitting here...alive."
He wasnt being serious, and thats probably what was so great. I could actually joke with him.
"I will. Dont worry."
A soft sigh passed his lips and he leaned his head on the tree trunk behind him. In the mid-day sun you could see the rings in his nose and lip shine, and you could see the way his green and golden eyes lit up. I couldnt exactly tell how many tattoos he had since he wore a purple hoodie today, but I'd noticed a few on his wrists when he lifted his arms. And the one on his neck stuck out a bit under the collar.
"You staring at me is kinda creepy, man."
I chewed on the inside of my cheek, that was now flushed, and looked away.
"Sorry."
I mumbled, setting my gaze on the ground instead.
Though I couldnt see him I could feel his eyes on me, running from my face down to where my feet were and then back up to my face.
"You staring at me is kinda creepy, man."
I mocked, turning to him.
His cheeks were slightly pink and a smile grew on his lips.
"I just couldn't help myself."
He chuckled slightly, still looking at me. For a moment we made really weird eye contact. I couldnt tell if it lasted 2 seconds or 2 minutes, but I sort of got lost.
Before I knew it he cleared his throat and was standing up.
"Hm. Uh. We should uh get going.."
He said awkwardly, looking out toward the direction of the school.
"What time is it?"
"Schools probably over by now."
"Shit."
I stood up quickly, abandoning my beer can on the woodsy ground.
"My moms gonna freak."
Finally he looked at me again and my stomach started doing gymnastics.
"I can go to your house with you. I dont think she'll yell at you with me there."
"She'd still yell.."
I sighed, stepping a bit closer to him.
"I mean. You can go if you want.."
A grin grew wide on his face and he nodded.
"Aw, sweet. Cool."
I couldnt help but smile back before we started to make our way back to my house.
