Stars pierced the dark veil of night.
The moon gleamed on the river.
Quietly, crickets chirped, and fireflies lazily blinked on and off.
A soft breeze meandered through the dusk-enveloped grass, stirring the sleeping flowers.

He sighed.

Despite the beautiful stillness of the scene before him, he was restless.
He shook his head, his soft hair gently tousling with the motion.
His eyes heavy with a feeling beyond which simple words could capture.
He was desperate for something.

Footsteps resounded on the stone path behind him.
He already knew who was coming.
They came closer and closer, until finally the owner sat down beside him.

He remained staring into the night.

A soft sigh escaped from the girl next to him.
He knew she wanted to help, but nothing could.

Carefully, he viewed her out of the corner of his eye.

She had her head thrown back, bewitching eyes lost in the ecstatic beauty of the heavens.
Her gently curving face was softly embraced by the moonlight, each blemish smoothed over until it too seemed beautiful.
The wind playfully tossed her long silky hair, it's normally brown coloration turning a strange purple in the dusk.

He was breathless.

For the first time that night, he was lost in something other than himself.
He was lost in the moment.
Lost in her.
