Cold hands clenched around the lumber, supporting it with every shred of her strength.
Slowly, slowly, moving.
Splinters jabbing into her fingers with every step, jagged breaths become small puffs in the air.
Aching arms.
Screaming back.
Glinting eyes.
The challenge is more tempting than the pain.
Gently setting it in the ground, she breathes a sigh of relief.
Her arms barely able to move, her back finally relaxed, her eyes gleaming with success, she sat against a wall.
Still breathing heavily. Blood rushing through her arms and into her fingers, tingling with warmth.
She smiles.
It's been awhile since she felt like this.
