Epilogue: Cocytus

The children of Earth awoke to the dawn of a fading red sky. The land was laid in ruins as far as the eye could see. Remnants of shattered buildings, crushed highways, and twisted lightposts were littered across the wasteland. Crimson waves washed upon white-sand shores. Every human and Nephilim alike were huddled on the ground, marred by tears and pain, unable to comprehend what had just taken place. They had all witnessed the battle in space, the gargantuan figures of Shizuka and Tabris flashing back and forth across the edge of space.

Emilia's gaze was glued to the sky. A massive blood splatter stained the face of the full moon, and in outer space, it was likely to stay there forever, permanently dying the moon a deep crimson. "Is Shizuka...really dead?" she asked.

Ramiel gave a slow nod. He sat cross-legged beside Kamiya and Emilia, his head hung to the ground. "She died as soon as Tabris devoured her. How she returned to life...that was the Lilin's doing. Only her Seraphim soul could return with a full body, and even then for a very short time...there was no hope for her to live anymore. But she gave the last of her life in order to save all of ours...to protect us all from extinction."

Samael stood atop a slumped overpass and adjusted his cracked glasses. "Master Tabris...he tricked us all. None of us wanted this...this wasteland wasn't what we fought for. I suppose you were right all along, Ramiel. If we had listened to you...then maybe things could have ended differently."

"I am not here to prove any point," Ramiel grumbled. "There is nothing to boast about. Rejoicing in the fact that I was right won't fix any of this. You all heard Shizuka's words...humans and Nephilim, we are one and the same. We are all God's children, and this world belongs to all of us. So...what do you want to do, Samael?"

The Nephilim scientist let out a heavy sigh. "I'm finished. I've had enough of pointless fighting and endless death. If we can't learn to live alongside one another, then both of our species will be annihilated, simple as that. And that would mean the extinction of the Angels' progeny...all of the sacrifices they made to give life to us would be meaningless as well. This planet isn't dead...it can still recover and return to its former glory...but if we continue to kill each other, then the place we've fought over for so long will only wither and die before our eyes. War only brings hell. Now...our only choice left is to come together and work to build a better world."

A chilly breeze swept over the area. It smelled of blood. A shower of glimmering sapphire dust rained down from the sky. Kamiya shook his head. "That damn kid...I don't get it. Before, she said she hated the Nephilim. She wanted to kill them all. If that was the case...then why didn't she exact her revenge when she had the power to wipe all of you out with a single thought?"

"She gained wisdom," Ramiel answered. "She realized that destruction and death was not the answer. If she had, that would make her no different than Tabris, right? Exterminating an entire species from the face of the Earth...she never would."

The giant stood up and spread his wings, towering above the broken wastes of Earth. His booming voice echoed across the desolate landscape. "When you start this new world...this world of Nephilim and human...remember this! Burn this moment into your memories, and make it last for all eternity! Let this event stand as a testament to everything we should never do! We're either going to live together...or die together! Make the foundation of this society...of one who never would!"

Once his words ended, a wave of silence cast over the Earth. That quiet day was felt across the galaxy.
