“Aiden, I am not sleeping on the floor.”
“Shay, you are not sleeping in my bed.”
The stare down was intense. I stood on one side of the bed in one of Aiden’s sleeping shirts and a pair of his boxers—with my underwear on underneath, of course. I faced Aiden with my arms crossed; his stance mimicked my own, the muscles hidden under his sleeves flexing distractingly. We’ve been going at it for the past eight minutes and thirty three seconds and I was exhausted.
After getting ready for bed and scrubbing off my makeup, I was ready to plop down and savor the few precious hours of sleep I could get. But, no. Aiden stubbornly decided to stall slumber and start this argument with me.
“Then why can’t I just sleep in another room? I’m sure you have plenty of guest bedrooms,” I replied irritably.
He smirked. “Like you wouldn’t want to spend the night in the same room as me. Trust me, sweet cheeks; everybody wants to.”
I glared, unamused, at him as I ignored the heat of my cheeks. Who does he think he is?
Keeping my gaze cool, I sniffed. “As if. The only woman you’ve ever shared a bed with is probably your mom, when the monsters in your closet made you wet the bed when you were younger.” Aiden’s eyes narrowed but before he could bite back I sighed. “Fine,” I said, “the floor it is. Where are the extra pillows?”
Aiden’s mouth opened to reply, but he quickly clamped it shut once more. Instead, he walked into the hallway. I sat on the bed tiredly, my eyelids fluttering shut. My body began to lurch forward until someone coughed. My lids flew open just as I caught myself and Aiden was standing in front of me, watching me from behind the mountain of pillows in his arms. He continued to tower over my sitting duck form, as if unsure what to do next. Wordlessly, he walked to the other side of the bed and began to prop the pillows up in the center of the mattress.
“What are you doing?”
“Shut up.”
“But what are you doing?”
“Building the Great Wall of China, now shut up.”
Once the pillow barrier was complete, Aiden flopped onto his side of the pillow blockade. I crawled into bed on the other side, sighing as I snuggled deeper into Aiden’s dark blue sheets that reminded me of his eyes. I began to drift off to the smell of clean linen and Aiden Chase.
“Goodnight Aiden.”
“Shut up.”

I woke up to the sensation of something warm on the back of my neck.
I forced my eyelids to creak open, squinting at the still dim room. It took a few seconds before my foggy mind cleared and I remembered where I was. I attempted to sit up, but was pinned down by the heavy weight of an arm resting in the curve of my waist. My eyes mentally walked down the limb to where it connected to a shoulder. I had to twist my body a bit so that my eyes could continue from the shoulder until they stopped on the face of a sleeping angel.
And it was there that I saw the little waterfall coming from the canyon of Aiden’s open mouth.
My mouth scrunched up in disgust as I scrambled quickly away from Aiden’s sleeping form, falling off the bed with a thud and a quiet scream. Wiping his drool off my bare skin, I peeked over the mattress to look at Aiden from my spot on the floor. The dimwit simply smacked his wet mouth a few times and rolled onto his back, the bricks of the demolished pillow wall surrounding his unmoving figure.
