“Your idea of fun is sneaking into your brother’s room?”
I looked pointedly at Hudson who grinned as we made our way up the stairs to Aiden’s room.
“I thought lunch was fun,” he said.
And it was. We went for pizza and walked a bit through Central Park. All the while Hudson was snapping away with his camera. I never pegged him as the artsy kind and laughed when he made me twirl and pose.
We were back at the mansion as Hudson claimed to end the date with a big bang.
Preferably not that kind of bang.
“It was, but what are we doing here?” I asked. We entered Aiden’s room and I sat on his unmade bed.
“We’re here for this,” Hudson called evilly as he walked into Aiden’s closet and came out with a cardboard box. Setting it down on the bed, he crawled over beside me and lifted the flaps of the box. “I am going to give you a crash course on the life of Aiden Brittany Chase.”
My eyes widened. “Oh my God, his middle name is Brittany?”
“Yeah, after the region in France,” Hudson snickered, as I laughed along with him. “Mom has family there.”
“I love France,” I commented.
“And you love my brother,” Hudson said bluntly out of the blue. My mouth dropped in shock.
“Please don’t deny it or hit me because I speak the truth,” he pleaded. I remained silent as Hudson sighed. “Look, I get that you won’t admit it; you probably don’t even know how much you like him. But everyone can still see it.”
I looked at him, my eyes suddenly wide with fear. “Everyone?” I said, panicking.
“Aiden doesn’t know,” Hudson assured me, putting my fears to rest.
“Good,” I said, relieved.
“Well, actually,” Hudson said, his face scrunched as if he were figuring out a logarithm. “He does know that you’re attracted to him and find him attractive. I mean, after all,” he said as he grinned wickedly, “You did tell him so directly.”
I groaned. “Y’all are never going to let Grad Night go, are you?” Hudson just snickered.
“So it’s true?” Hudson probed.
I sighed. “I just thought he was really hot. Yes, I was really into him for a couple semesters. And, I told him too. But then he’s just so annoying and arrogant at work. He’s not the guy I thought he was in high school.”
“But you still like him,” he confirmed.
“He’s not the guy I thought he was,” I repeated firmly. “Somehow, he’s even better.”
Hudson’s eyes widened. “You do realize that you guys are at each other’s throats, like, all the time, right?”
I sighed again. “It’s like, he pushes my buttons and I want to punch him, but I actually, kind of enjoy how much we annoy each other most of the time. Masochistic, I know.”
